Mormon Women are Allowed Sleeveless. God is Angry

Since way back, Mormon women have been required to wear undergarments that, in turn, required them to wear tops with sleeves. No bare upper arms nor shoulders. Now, a more revealing undergarment has been approved and Mormon women are allowed to wear tank tops. It has caused various big reactions. Of course, some women and men are delighted. Some who prefer to be seen as suffering and obedient members are angry. Another set is angry they were forced for some many years when they were young to wear absurd articles of clothing and suddenly it's OK to wear something nice when they are too old to do so.

Why was the change made? In usual Mormon manner, there is no explanation. It has not been explained who made the change and what thinking or discussion is behind it. Silence.

In the Mormon denomination, silence is the rule. The amount of transparency is close to zero. Every time a new Prophet is named God sends him a different set of rules than the previous Prophet received. Why does this happen?

A slow public image change is being pushed quietly in the back rooms of the Mormon faith. Mormonism was for so long treated by the rest of Christianity as a freak show. Part of this was because of the many wives owned by Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. So, image makers decided to talk less or almost never about Smith and Young and talk up Jesus. The corporate name of Mormonism was dropped and a new name that included Jesus was adopted. It's, if I recall, Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter Day Saints.

Perhaps the new name brought with it sleeveless tank tops for women. I don't suppose Jesus has yet to approve women as Prophets of the Mormon church.

  1. A few years ago, I asked a Missionary (A very nice and polite young man by the way) about the temple garments, and he pretty much said that they couldn't talk too much about it and that I'd learn more about it after being baptized. That was a bit of a red flag to say the least.

    1. Thanks for the comment. On Mormon Stories Podcast, You Tube, ex Mormons are often asked if there were times while they were still enthusiastic Mormons they felt perhaps it was a cult or cult-like. They often say yes, when they first put on the garments.
