More About Why Natural Law is Foolishness

I'm enjoying The Unnecessary Science; A Critical Analysis of Natural Law Theory by Gunther Laird. He makes the argument Catholics are incorrect to claim their faith has some link to Aristotle, the great philosopher, Greek and Pagan, who lived generations before the alleged time of Jesus. Author Laird reviews books and blogs by the well known Catholic philosopher Edward Feser. Feser is confident he knows the links from today's Catholicism to that of Thomas Aquinas to Aristotle.

Laird goes after Feser's confident conclusion that a human life is present at conception. Like most everything Feser believes this is right down home plate in Catholic dogma. The reason is that at conception a new DNA arrives and this is "self evidence" a new human being is present.

Laird questions why it can be claimed  "at the moment of conception" (which takes several hours) a unique human is started. More technically, the argument is the potential for a new human has begun. Laird argues the potential for a unique human being began long before conception.

Each female egg cell and male sperm cell are unique. Uniqueness does not begin when they unite. The proof of this is obvious. Many who read this are one half of a couple who has had more than one child. The children from the same couple are always different one from another. That is except identical twins which are very similar. Thus, we must conclude uniqueness started before the moment of conception. If one wants to claim a human being exists at some point before birth he/she has a host of choices. It could be at "quickening." It could be a conception or it could be when the cells of egg or sperm were first produced. Choosing the moment of conception as the moment was good politics but it is not good science.

In Natural Law Theory there is much discussion about what exists and why it exists. The organs of reproduction as well as egg and sperm cells are discussed at length. The male and female organs were designed by God to fit together and must be used for their intended purpose, to reproduce. Reproduction is natural or else there would not be humans. Therefore all reproduction is necessary and good. Too much reproduction, starvation, is not considered.

There is but one purpose for sex, to reproduce. Egg and sperm cells also have but one purpose, reproduction. It is then a violation of natural law to use these cells for any other purpose. Sex for pleasure is such a violation as is use of birth control.

Author Laird has a laugh over this. He points out that most males experience "wet dreams" at some point in their lives. Sperm is spilled and not used for reproduction. This phenomena, wet dreams, obviously is something that serves a purpose in the nature of humans. It is natural. Yet it is a violation of "Natural Law."

  1. I have never been much interested in "natural law". If it's against the law, you naturally shouldn't do it, with the exception of the law and demands of tyrants.

  2. I'll go off topic here for a minute. Tonight I read a long article in The New Yorker about a young woman trying to organize the Catholic Church's vast land holdings all over the world. She is a devout Catholic herself and thinks the church could do much more good if its holdings were better organized and managed. It turns out interest in keeping track of the holdings was more or less abandoned long ago. The church has very old computer technology, if any. I think both Catholics and non Catholics would find it interesting:

If natural law is not followed, then at least follow the law. i.e. If election ballots are due by 8:00 PM, do not deliver them illegally at 3:30 AM the next day, especially if it swings the election.

My guess is voter suppression by any means necessary is well underway in the majority of state legislatures. “Just a swingin’.” I will be surprised if turnout will be 160 million in 2024. The nascent Greene party would lose if all eligible voters were permitted to cast a ballot. The reconstituted Right will be freed once again from the chains of victimhood but not unfortunately from the rampant apophenia.

  4. Henry-- "They slow-walked release of the video."

The surveillance video was released. People conducting fraud don't release surveillance. I couldn't take this site seriously after the mysterious music started. You should revert to the code language of Republican politicians who want to appeal to the fraud crowd but have no evidence, "Let's make sure every vote was counted." But wait, you can't do this because those late delivered packages of ballots were people's votes, "every vote was counted." Black peoples' votes need some other rule applied.

    1. You are making a leap (without evidence) they are "black people's votes". We really don't know. What we do know is:
      1. Those ballots missed the deadline.
      2. Those ballots did not have the requisite observers.
      3. Chain of custody was in violation of law.
      4. A statistically improbable surge in Joe Biden votes occurred shortly after delivery.

Based on counts 1,2, 3, and 4, the votes will have to be thrown out and the states election will have to be recounted and recertified. Their error diminishes the value of our election we conducted in ND and IA. Some equal protection is in order (Law).

Let's keep this to law (your topic), science, and what we know, not what we guess in order to support Office of the President* Biden.

    2. Henry #4 was any more statistically improbably that decades of votes for Democrats in the South that changed to Republicans. #1, #2 and #3 are over ridden by the fact that these votes were legally cast. That agrees with the Republican mantra "count all votes."

In the video the ballots were carefully wrapped probably with a seal. I'm guessing a UPS driver did not come to work or was never lined up beforehand. Rather than transport the ballots in an individual's car a decision was made to use an official city vehicle with an employee of the City handling the ballots and vehicle. They could not find one until the wee hours. Stuff happens. There is a small army of Republican lawyers in the City of Detroit. Have you ever seen the glass high rise in the Downtown? I've been in it. There are a lot of Democratic voters in the City of Detroit but there is also a lot of Republican money.

    3. "That agrees with the Republican mantra "count all votes."

"Count all votes" is actually a democrat mantra. The Republican mantra has been "count all LEGAL votes". Maybe that will change with Romney flailing about.

The deadline was missed. Counties and states run elections. A city van should initiate some additional investigation.

You have the answer you want. No sense applying the law with that result.

Unfortunately for Trump, that is what happened in Detroit and across Michigan. Counting legal votes is what did Trump in.

    2. You may want to enlist better fact checkers. There must be a lot of really, really old people in Michigan....oldest in the world. There were seven absentee ballots mailed out for persons born in 1902 or prior. Five of the seven ballots returned. Your fact checkers suck. Their storyline was almost verbatim for each state, just different names supplied. The CCP/DNC must have supplied the correct talking points format anticipating the findings. The 17,367 dead voters certified votes seems pretty reasonable at a 5 to 7 ratio, maybe even undervalued.

They don't want a ninety year-old who took one for the team to get jailed. In the article, two cases that do not even disprove that dead people voted, apparently are used to nullify the 17,367 dead voter's votes that were found. That doesn't even come close to preponderance of the evidence. It is the mark of terrible journalism, a continued coverup, and extreme gullibility. Let's follow the law, the purpose of this thread.

    5. You have to love the fact that in some of these states, numerous executed absentee ballots were received by the county auditors before they even sent the blank ballots out. Laughable. "Nope, there is no evidence of fraud here. Everything is fine. Move along." They need to follow the law and throw out those ballots. Naturally, that is what needs to happen, not following the democrat mantra of "every vote counts".

Then, there is a site called "checkyourvote.org." My computer would not allow access because of about hacking. I looked for the site to be reviewed by someone else to learn who runs it and its origin. Wikipedia has never heard of it. No one else seems to have heard of it either.

It would be so helpful if you could provide just one tidbit of reliable information about all this fraud.

  7. I don't know what any of this has to do with the topic of this post. but as long as we are rehashing the 2020 election, here's a thought. I think that no one can deny that there were votes that were illegally cast. how many, we don't know and perhaps can never know. in the jurisdictions where ballots were mailed out en masse there were undoubtedly people who had died, moved to other states, etc. and where others "voted" on their behalf. voter lists in most jurisdictions are not pure in the sense that names of non-residents, the deceased and other non eligible voters have been purged. seems to me that this is an impossible task in most large jurisdictions. moreover, attempts to clean up the voter rolls are often viewed as attempts to suppress voter participation. similarly, vote counters may find it difficult, if not impossible to determine the legitimacy of every ballot cast. in sum, you don't need conspiracy theorists to tell that our voting system has blemishes, even serious shortcomings.

  8. tsm "...votes that were illegally cast."

You are correct there will be clerical errors, voters who died the day after they mailed in their ballots. There was publicity about several people who were claimed to be "dead voters" who were actually alive. Accusations of dead voters who had the exact same name as an adult child who voted legally. The question is, was their fraud. There has been no case of fraud. Did the clerical errors occur more to the advantage of Biden or Trump. So far as we know it happened equally to each.

You answered your own question. It was an interesting exercise for me. I was relying on a tertiary right-wing source, Mike Lindell's "Absolute Proof". Dead Michigan voters=17,367 from that source. The secondary source I provided with checkyourvote is 17,327 dead voter's votes. I am quite surprised you were able to find that source yourself. I had to use some special techniques earlier this morning with a search engine and get beyond all the security certificate warnings. If you haven't noticed, Big Tech is hampering the free flow of information. This exercise is no exception. You would think Big Tech would enjoy the good info and bad info alike instead of listening to some liberal biased journalist repeating the same lies over and over. However, if you get 100 of them chanting in unison, maybe some liberal waste will stick to the wall, obscuring the real data. I see the vote dead vote count has adjusted by 40 since the initial count. I am glad someone has gone through and culled out the 0.2% of clerical errors. It is as I thought, the Guardian sychophants used the 0.2% to "Factcheck" and dismiss the real problem.

    1. Henry--I still could not reach Checkyourvote. I did see this which is the official position of the State of Michigan. That includes downtown Detroit.

As far as the checkyourvote.org site not working, Big Tech has the hatches battened down well on that site. They certainly do not want people to see that website. I have seen it after a lot of hoopla. I also tried to archive it on a web service. It errored. I then looked at the older archive snapshots. It flashed briefly with the website info, and then screen went completely white. This did this for all archive dates. They do not want that info for people's review. Big Tech has it locked up.

Some of the info on that site includes the deceased voter's name, address, and date of birth based on public information, obituaries and such. You can take that info and verify on the official Michigan website to see that they voted. The Michigan SOS does not know their own site very well. They are not truthful. They do not want this information out there. They need to follow the law.

    3. Henry "Some of the info...." Instead of looking only at site paid for by right wing nut cases I like to find regular news papers and such. The Detroit News asked both those expressing doubt and those defending the vote. Those defending the vote noted the "67%" errors did not explain what or where the errors were. The impression they tried to leave is Trump would have gotten 67% more votes. Since it was not explained what or where the "errors" were maybe Trump would have gotten 67% fewer. Anyway, that county was so small it doesn't seem like it would have changed Michigan for Trump. "you can take that info and verify on the official MI website that they voted." No you can't. The dead person and an alive person often have the same names and even addresses.

    4. "The dead person and an alive person often have the same names and even addresses."

That is why the website Big Tech has made hard to access has birth dates and addresses for the deceased. Helps eliminate the confusion.

"Those defending the vote noted the "67%" errors did not explain what or where the errors were."

That is the simpler vote fraud to explain. The 67% error rate was the manual hand recount done by good-hearted local officials (Republicans and Democrats working together) versus the machine count which had multipliers on both sides of the aisle. Biden's multiplying factor was above one. Trump's multiplying factor was below one. The combination of the two produced an error rate of 67%. Further, Antrim County was one of the few counties in the nation allowed a full forensic audit. The voting machines failed the audit miserably. Despite tampering by someone (seals broken and log file criminally removed), they were able to positively conclude that the machines were rigged for vote fraud. The good Republican and Democrat canvassing board didn't need a forensic audit. They knew something was awry. Good normal people, not hacks from the SOS office.

We see what is happening at FOX right now when too many questions are asked or the wrong things are said. Lou Dobbs was recently purged. Fraud is a legal term. Exactly what fraud was committed and who committed it? I gather from what you wrote some, including you, believe fraud was committed but there is still no proof. That someone says the seals were broken does not prove fraud. It might prove cheap seals were used.

    7. "Exactly what fraud was committed and who committed it?"

Obviously, election fraud was committed. Treason for US citizens who conspired due to the internet traffic logged from foreign operators working to overthrow our government. Who committed it?

Prior to Georgia being stolen, Trump was significantly ahead. Office of President* Bieden at his car honking event election day evening surprisingly said they were making headway in Georgia. However, at that time he said it, no evidence would support what he said. It struck me as odd when I heard it. What did Joe know? Then several hours later in the dark of the night in George on the morning of the fourth, Office of the President* Bieden's numbers had a incongruent spike defying statistics followed up by a backfilling of votes by Ruby and company. News media was tipped off not to call Georgia for Trump.

Who? Well, now we have a conspiracy. Here are the parties requiring a real investigation:
      1. Ruby & Company
      2. Office of the President* Bieden
      3. News media outlets assisting, puffing up B
      4. Election machine representives
      5. Republican SOS and Governor in Georgia
      6. FBI for destroying State evidence and slow-walking or halting investigation.
      7. Courts for not giving a proper forum for redress of grievances.
      8. CCP for executing the early morning hacks.
      9. USPS coordinating the shipment of large quantities of backfilled ballots required to cover the hacked votes.

It is a criminal legal matter. Requires a legal term. Ok, a broken seal from rough handling. Circumstantial evidence. Missing log files by itself....stuff happens. But coupled with the crime of the removed log files the days following the election, it is election fraud. With the 67% error rate, there would be motive to cover up something. This is a criminal matter. A legal term or two needs to be used. Somebodies need to pay. And unlawful overthrow of a government is a very serious charge. This will not go away. Truth eventually prevails when it is initially held down.

    8. Henry--"This will not go away." It already has gone away. It's gone away because there was no fraud anywhere. "New media outlets...Election machine representatives..." there is nothing there.
