How to Stop the Losses Among the World's Religions

Another ten-year survey of populations around the world and their religions was released recently. It showed a continuation of the pattern we have discussed here for years: Islam grew the most because of high birth rates, not because of conversions. Christianity grew a little because of high birth rates in Africa. This growth, also, was not due to conversions. Christianity dropped all over the West.

There is a group, however, that has a low birth rate but grew anyway. They grew from conversions. That is the group called the "nones", no religious affiliation. You would think Christians and Muslims would wonder why nones are growing so much and what they themselves could do to stop losing people to those nones.

Binge watching interviews with ex Mormons got me to thinking about all Christians and, for that matter, all the religions of the world. The leadership in the Mormon denomination has been obsessed in recent times by the fact most other Christians do not think of Mormons as "Christians." This obsession caused them to change their official name from Mormon to the cumbersome name, "Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter Day Saints." They have also engaged in far flung publicity work trying to sound and appear "Christian." This obsession is nuts. It makes no difference if the public thinks Mormonism is "Christian" or something else. Mormons remain small world-wide and its youth are leaving like all the others because of something else.

I have a suggestion for the Mormons. It would also solve the problem all religions in the world have, the problem of people leaving to become NONES. What the Mormons and all others need to do is hire a survey company to ask thousands of people this question: "WHAT IS IT WE THINK AND WE DO THAT YOU FIND BAT-SHIT CRAZY?"

After the results came in adjustments would be made. No more NONES. All branches of all religions leaving behind bat-shit crazy ideas would be a bonanza. We atheists who have to put up with religions putting crazy ideas into our laws would celebrate as well.
