A Split Over "Religious Freedom" Was Inevitable



The Rutherford Institute in an old name in political and legal disputes. It's former leader claims it was established to defend the rights of all religious people in all religions. He now says he disapproves of Rutherford's current work to defend only right-wing Christianity and right-wing political causes. One should not allow the camel's nose to get under the tent.

Back when it started, Rutherford defended all religions. Today, we know, right-wing groups defend only Christianity and demonize other religions. If you would like the freedom to be a Muslim, don't depend on Rutherford for help. You are on your own.

The ignorance of religious groups, be it anti-abortion, anti-gay or anti Muslim, is astounding. It's leaders cannot understand they need allies. The fewer the allies and the more enemies the lower the changes for success.

Right wing religion, Catholic or Southern Baptist, would have more members if they embraced gay people and women who have had or need abortions. Current hater-members would be angry, but they have no place to go.

We need only look at today's polling numbers. Trump is not doing well. If right-wing Christians had been smarter they would not have burned their relationship with Democrats. Now, both Democrats and Republicans are moving on without them.

As society moves to accept abortion and gay/trans the hatred part of the political spectrum becomes more isolated. This has had some setbacks and twists and turns, but the direction of tolerance is unmistakable.

Talarico Looks Like an Obama II

We all have our ideas about what is good or smart politics. I'm no different. Those who read this blog have to hear mine. My thinking is millions of voters will go to the polls in the next two elections for the specific purpose of voting against Trump. Most of these voters, however, will not admit that is why or how they are voting. They will have convinced themselves they are voting for some reason more idealistic and loftier. An example of what they might say to themselves is, "I'm voting for a better country." The job of Democrats, Libertarians, Socialists and whomever is to give those voters something that ends the sentence, "I'm voting for someone other than a Republican because..."  The sentence will not end in "...I hate Trump." It will be something else. Time to Forget the Christian Nation Thing

While women are forbidden from being priests/preachers in some branches of Christianity thank goodness they are not forbidden from writing and lecturing about Christianity. A great article about the "Christian nation" notion shows us the U.S. is not a Christian nation and hopefully never will be.
