How Small Can Houses Be



There is so much discussion of a topic called, "Tiny Houses." Having been a mayor, I know well the problem of finding a spot for lots of small houses. People elected to office will face opposition from voters and use zoning to prevent them from being built. Today where I live there is a proposal that may happen to take a former school building site, land already owned and controlled by the public, tear down the school and build a small neighborhood of tiny homes. 

"Tiny home" neighborhoods already exist in the form of recreational vehicle parks. These are usually privately owned and have water and sewer connections. People without much money but with recreational campers move into these places and live there permanently. These are often on the outskirts of cities or in rural areas. Opposition from voters keeps them out of neighborhoods. There are also "trailer parks" that are a bit larger.

The idea of small permanent houses located in established city neighborhoods is a new idea that is being advocated and experimented with but not yet done on a large scale. There is some resistance to large buildings with efficiency apartments. The idea of the tiny home neighborhoods is needed. How small can the houses be and how can voter resistance be overcome? 

An efficiency apartment with a bed, sitting area, kitchen and bath can be about 500 square feet. This may be the size of house for tiny homes. Can people be happy in houses like these? Can neighborhoods be "policed" or supervised to keep areas around housed from becoming storage areas? This will require a change in thinking and conformity not present in everyone everywhere. 

Every week, a few thousand more people without savings become retired. Ultimately, millions will be forced out their current housing and have only social security income. At his time there is no housing solution to the coming demographics. Clear thinking is needed by public officials. It is also needed by ordinary citizens who will have to live in spaces smaller than they have experienced before in their lives.

My thinking is millions of voters will go to the polls in the next two elections for the specific purpose of voting against Trump. Will We Ever Know How Accurate Current Bibles Are

When I discuss the many times the Bible was copied and recopied by scribes over a couple of thousand years, the reply is often, "I have a book by this (or that) expert who says the Bible is 99% accurate to its original writers." The 99% claim appears in various places defending the Bible. There is one thing we know absolutely: There is no surviving original copy of the Bible. Even the oldest surviving material is a generation or two after the time some of the Bible was written. This means no one can claim he has, or ever will, compare the current Bible to the original Bible and find the two are 99% the same. We cannot claim either that it is not 99% accurate. For the sake of discussion, however, assume the current Bible is 99% accurate. That would mean the one word out of every 100 was inaccurate. Ancient God, Bel (Baal), the Main Character in an Ancient Play

In a British museum is a preserved stone tablet from Babylon. It dates to about 2,000 BCE. Someone labored patiently to inscribe an entire passion play featuring the god Bel. I reiterate this is a stone tablet, not a recopied papyrus. The play begins with the god Bel arrested by soldiers and taken off the stage. He reappears at a trial in the Hall of Judgement. Bel is innocent but is sentenced to death. In the next scene Bel is accosted by a mob. He is despised and rejected. The actor playing Bel is then taken by guard to a hilltop in a sacred grove. Two criminals are taken with him. One of these is released. The the audience then leaves the theater and follows the actor Bel and his guards to the top of a hill where the death scene is enacted by hanging from a tree.
