Anti-Abortion Can't See the In Vitro Discards as "Murder"



An anti abortionist recently chastised her group for not attacking the in vitro practice of fertilizing several human eggs, picking the best one for implantation and discarding the rest. She pointed out the in vitro clinics "kill" more "babies" than Planned Parenthood. I've never heard of anti abortionists demanding these clinics be charged with murder or that there be funerals for the discarded fertilized eggs. Readers may recall some states have laws requiring funerals for ended pregnancies 

I think there is a simple way to explain why anti-abortion groups do not demand in vitro clinics stop throwing away these "babies." There is no money in it. To bring donations, anti-abortion needs a villain. Once upon a time the villain was the abortion clinic. This villain is disappearing as more pregnancies are done by taking meds. When the villain became the woman taking the pills it hurt anti-abortion revenue. In the case of the in vitro clinic, the "villain" is a staff that is both trying to allow women to have babies and flushing fertilized eggs. Anti-abortion has not found a way to demonize these fertilization clinics which allow couples to give birth.

The link author inadvertently put her figure on the problem. She repeats the fundamentalists dogma that a human being is present when the human egg is fertilized. It is not, she says, when the fertilized egg is ebbed in the woman's reproductive organs. This definition, made up by the men who were Catholic clergy, has dogged anti-abortion for many decades. It's now hurting fund raising. 

I predict we will never see this Pope demonizing fertility clinics, even though the denomination's official position is opposition to ("unnatural" conception) in vitro. Further, you can count on the Pope to penalize any rogue Bishop who speaks publicly against these clinics. Having painted itself into a corner the last two Popes think it best not to discuss the dilemma.

The link author is beating the war drums trying to build opposition to flushing the discards. She will be unsuccessful.

Will We Ever Know How Accurate Current Bibles Are

When I discuss the many times the Bible was copied and recopied by scribes over a couple of thousand years, the reply is often, "I have a book by this (or that) expert who says the Bible is 99% accurate to its original writers." The 99% claim appears in various places defending the Bible. There is one thing we know absolutely: There is no surviving original copy of the Bible. Even the oldest surviving material is a generation or two after the time some of the Bible was written. This means no one can claim he has, or ever will, compare the current Bible to the original Bible and find the two are 99% the same. We cannot claim either that it is not 99% accurate. For the sake of discussion, however, assume the current Bible is 99% accurate. That would mean the one word out of every 100 was inaccurate. Ancient God, Bel (Baal), the Main Character in an Ancient Play

In a British museum is a preserved stone tablet from Babylon. It dates to about 2,000 BCE. Someone labored patiently to inscribe an entire passion play featuring the god Bel. I reiterate this is a stone tablet, not a recopied papyrus. The play begins with the god Bel arrested by soldiers and taken off the stage. He reappears at a trial in the Hall of Judgement. Bel is innocent but is sentenced to death. In the next scene Bel is accosted by a mob. He is despised and rejected. The actor playing Bel is then taken by guard to a hilltop in a sacred grove. Two criminals are taken with him. One of these is released. The the audience then leaves the theater and follows the actor Bel and his guards to the top of a hill where the death scene is enacted by hanging from a tree.
