Two Christian Hoaxes: Pray the Gay Away, Send Money to End all Abortions

Could it be devout Christians are the most gullible people in the world? Recently, a gay man published a book about the folly of Christian anti-gay therapies. A woman who makes her living in anti-abortion politics just published an old saw carrying the message: Even though all the money you gave us to stop abortion in the past resulted in more abortions, keep sending us money.

There is a small army of gay men who enrolled in Reparation Therapy, pray the gay away, and left when they remained gay and wrote about it. They did not just say it left them gay. They tell of the mental harm they experienced because of it. The "treatment" apparently stresses the individual's will to stop same sex attraction. When the inevitable failure happens, it is not the program that is blamed, it is the gay man. Forced to blame themselves for something they have no control over, self-worth plummets. Suicide among these men is much higher than the national average.

I attended a couple of lectures by men who spent time in the "treatment." One moved up to an executive position before leaving. All speakers had a long list of those who failed.

That so many Christians support anti-abortion groups is another mystery. There is a long list of anti-abortion groups, all run on money sent to them by the faithful. These millions, no doubt hundreds of millions, have as their accomplishment more abortions than ever. Now all of these sites are claiming money is needed more than ever.

That there has been an increase in abortions is, they say, because of "politicians" who allow clinics and abortion meds by mail. Anti-abortion people need to be reminded: If it were popular politically to ban all abortions all abortions would be banned. Women buy abortions, the medical industry provides them. If women did not buy them there would be no abortions provided. Anyone who sends money to an anti-abortion group and thinks it will stop or prevent even one abortion is not thinking clearly.
