The Latin Mass Catholic Break Away Group
After the "Second Vatican" council which established that mass be performed in languages other than Latin, a protest group formed. Later, the conservative Pope Benedict appeased them by seating the clergy they had "ordained" and allowing Latin mass. Now, Pope Leo has again banned Latin mass and the group is planning to "ordain" more rogue clergy. The Vatican and this rouge group is headed for another collision.
The link and suggest that inside the Latin Mass advocates is a political operation that worked against Pope Francis and now Leo. One would guess that as Pope Francis began to fail their hopes were the next Pope would be another conservative like Benedict. This was never a possibility, however, because Francis only named Cardinals who were at least somewhat sane and liberal. Now, the Latin Mass group is frozen out for a couple of decades and has decided to make a fuss.
Latin Mass, no women in powerful positions, no gays, no abortions and no birth control all go together. They are all ideas from centuries ago and are foreign to the majority of Catholics today. If history repeats itself, the Vatican will go to great lengths to keep the Latin Mass group from bolting the denomination. Experience in the Protestant branch suggests that may not be the best strategy.
An example is the huge Methodist denomination. It tried for years to keep the rational and whacko factions together. After the split finally happened a minority of churches with older member split off. The majority stayed and one could say the denomination is more robust than before. The split off group is made up of older members who will die off. I'm sure the Latin Mass group is an older demographic and it will cease to exist in a decade or two.
