Wyoming Court Rules in Favor of Abortion Rights

Anti-abortion groups thought they would prevail in Wyoming. In spite of the governor talking as if he had a hallow hovering over his head saying the state must keep trying to eliminate abortion, it's still there

Wyoming went for Trump by well over 60%. Yet, polls show abortion rights remain popular with the majority. When a large majority in a state's legislature plus a governor go in one direction and voters go in a different direction, the result often depends on whether it is a state that allows and holds state-wide votes. State-wide votes, of course, overrule whatever the majority of legislators and/or a governor want. Some states allow state-wide votes, some do not.

It turns out Wyoming allows state-wide votes. I don't know Wyoming politics but certainly it appears that if the state's politicians want to ban abortions its up hill for them. Now they have lost big in court. It seems inevitable they will lose in a state-wide vote. The odds in favor of abortion rights in Wyoming are big.

It's astounding anti-abortion cannot understand what is in their best interests. What is in their interests is to add incremental misery to women who acquire abortion services. That's what was going on for decades before Roe was overturned. Ultra sounds, waiting periods and extra expenses were added. Granted, these did not affect the number of abortions, but it kept the money flowing to anti-abortion groups. Money has always been the goal, not stopping abortions. Somehow stopping abortions moved in front of harassing women and big defeats started to happen.

It's fun to speculate about the future of politics, even though predictions are often wrong. Some states in the Middle West like North Dakota are limited or no abortion. Abortions are available in adjacent states. Women in parts of Texas and Mississippi have longer travel distances. Which kind of state will first fold and make local abortion access available? What makes is hard to predict is the considerable money available for women to travel to get their abortions.
