The Entire ICE Thing is Political and Unnecessary



The huge amount of money being spent on poorly trained ICE agents and the deaths and turmoil they cause is so unnecessary. With enough money and will the numbers of people entering our country illegally can be stopped. I've read it has already been largely stopped. 

There are currently a large number of people in the U.S. who are here without citizenship papers and are not in the process of getting them. What should we do about them?

Mostly, nothing. Let's let demographics take care of the issue. They will live out their lives and not be replaced with other illegal people. Eventually the numbers of people without legal status will be much smaller. The problems caused by illegal people is tiny compared to the problem caused by trying to track them down. 

When I make this argument that the issue of undocumented people will solve itself, I'm guilty of leaving out the most important variable. That is politicians getting elected. To the politician, especially Trump, this is not only the biggest issue, it is the only issue. We all know there are votes to be harvested by fear and race. The ICE agents who are breaking windows and shooting people are getting votes for Republicans. 

To these politicians, this is the highest of callings.

What Was the "Argument" in the Election

I hate to add my blog to the piles of blogs and pundits analyzing and pondering the meaning of the just passed election. But that's what I feel like doing today. I've always like Senator Ted Cruz's summary of politics. He once said, "First, win the argument. Then, win the election." I think there is a way of applying that to anti abortion Catholics and Protestants. The link talks of Catholics who now feel they have no political home because Republicans let them down with Trump but they remain against abortion rights. Taking Cruz's win-the-argument thesis, I'd call the past election about an argument between two groups. One group's argument was, "Trump's a jerk." The other's argument was, "Abortion is wrong." Time to Forget the Christian Nation Thing

While women are forbidden from being priests/preachers in some branches of Christianity thank goodness they are not forbidden from writing and lecturing about Christianity. A great article about the "Christian nation" notion shows us the U.S. is not a Christian nation and hopefully never will be.
