Making a Living as a Non Believer
There was only a tiny amount of money available in the non believing world until perhaps the 1970's. When Madeline O'Hair protested prayer in her son's school and became famous. She published books and started American Atheists. About 20 years ago large publishing houses started producing books on atheism and an entire world of profit in non belief unknown until then opened up. Today sites like this one are so large those who produce them make a nice living.
The link is a site where people who are experiencing complications with their faith discuss their issues on camera with a professional councilor. The host has a Ph. D. in psychology. He left the Mormon branch years ago and found many people going through that experience and wanting to talk to someone about what they had experienced and how they should navigate the future. It developed into a full-time private practice and he does well on You Tube.
The group call "nones," no affiliation with any religion, is now larger than any Christian denomination. People in large denominations formerly had a pipeline of books and preachers to explore ideas with. Now those who have left need the same things and find them in the secular world. This, or course, has birthed a small economy to replace some of that owned by Christianity.
Some years back, a young man I knew well wanted to make a living organizing and running an atheist organization. This did not pan out for him but it will for others.
