Most Christians Don't Believe in the "Holy Spirit"

A new survey says the number of Christians who believe the Holy Spirit exists is down to one in ten. It makes sense people don't believe it exists because it is something completely manufactured by the large number of people who have been paid to make things up in religion. An author/Baptist preacher friend of mine, now deceased Howard Bess, who continued to study the Bible all his life said he never really understood what was meant by the term "Holy Spirit."

The Holy Spirit is, most have heard, one of the three in "The Trinity." Yet, the Bible never states there is a "Trinity." So, what is the "Holy Spirit" and how did it become such a big deal? Further, how did this thingy which has been so big in the faith now become so small? Here is an outsider's (me) explanation.

During the centuries when the stories and myths that eventually became the Bible was circulating, there was a lot of superstition. Still today a black cat crossing in front of you will bring bad luck and there are hotels that do not have the bad luck floor, "13th".

I googled "Holy Spirit" to get a definition or explanation. Here is the first one and only one I looked at. It says the "Holy Spirit" is actually God. For some reason, however, it is necessary to use it to explain things that happen and believers would rather not attribution them to God. So they made up something else. It seems to me their argument that God is real and not a myth is only weakened by running another myth up the flag. When the link goes into the relationship between God and the Holy Spirit I'm reminded of the Greek gods. There were all kinds of stories about the relationship among these gods. They had affairs, cheated and had any number of storied experiences. Then times moved on and the Greek gods and the relationships between them became buried in the sands of time. With the Holy Spirit fading it too will find a home with the forgotten Greek gods.

God is supposed to be a "person" who looks like us. According to the link, the Holy Spirit is also a person. Are we surprised they are both males?

According to one commenter here, claiming as I am doing here that the Holy Spirit is a myth is a sin of major proportions. "Denying the Holy Spirit" is blasphemy and an unpardonable sin. Gosh, sorry. The Holy Spirit seems to have a thin skin. I'm going to give him some time to get over it.
