Right Wing Theory: California Fires Were Caused by Gays

A TV reporter was doing on the street interviews with people getting views about the California fires. A man she randomly chose to interview told her, "It was caused by the gays." Apparently, this was live so the interviewer quickly said she disagreed with that. Gays have been blamed for everything so why not the fire in CA.

I'm interested in the insurance aspect of these fires. It appears to my amateur observation that the value of the damage will be much greater than the damage in Florida by hurricanes.

I read that some insurance companies, including State Farm, cancelled a large number of customers recently because it felt there was a serious fire risk and the claims would outrun its ability to paid them. Other companies also cancelled their customers. A woman was interviewed who said her company cancelled her a day or two before the fires started. Apparently, there is some kind of state government supported insurance but not everyone has this.

As these climate related disasters keep happening some things are becoming obvious to the general public. People understand now building homes and businesses on the Florida coast is not a good idea.

The mistake of piling millions of people into Southern California, however, is not as well known. I was on a state-wide water policy board in North Dakota for 18 years. The position includes many hours of lectures and reading materials about water laws and huge projects to move water from one place to another. Southern California has millions of people for only one reason, taxpayers paid federal taxes which in turn paid to move water from other areas to that dry area. Without that water the population of Southern California would be tiny. The fires now burning would be taking but a fraction of the damage they are now taking.

While it happens in other countries to some extent, in the U.S. we move water to where people want to live instead of requiring people live where there is water. That's the problem in Southern California. In Florida, and other coastal areas, people want to live next to water. But the water, which breeds hurricanes, owns this property and people should not live there either.

Gays did not cause either of these problems.
