California Fires: Clergy Hurry to Taker God Off the Hook


The Freedom From Religion Foundation started a secure site several years ago for clergy who secretly no longer believe the tenets of Judeo Christianity. Some of them have left the field and many still feel trapped and need to make house payments and support their families. Apparently, the site has a large number of subscribers. One of the ex clergy said, "One of the unpleasant requirements of being in the clergy business is to take God off the hook, to make sure that when disasters happen the disasters are not blamed on God. The Sunday following a disaster a take-God-off-the-hook sermon is required." 

You can be certain take-God-off-the-hook sermons are being written at this moment for sermons coming up this Sunday. The fire story is so large these sermons will be required across the country. A prominent Rabbi just published his version today.  He wrote that God is not in Southern California where to fires remain. He has no explanation for the fires but suggested that God will be the small voice giving people whose homes and businesses were destroyed some hope for their future. 

It would be informative if some national news agency did a survey today of clergy, preachers, priests and Rabbis and to learn if they planned a message that God was not responsible for the fires. It is inevitable, of course, there will be some who will preach that the fires were God's punishment for the many gay bars and drag show venues in the area. They might name those places of sin that God burned. 

Christian Post had another post a few days ago telling us God also was not responsible for the suicide car drivers who killed people. In this author's telling God was not responsible there either. Instead, the blame was on Biden, lack of security and free will. These are traditional Christian right outs for God. Free will is a humorous one. God is all powerful except for the free will that kills people. In both the California fires and the suicide car bombs God is not "all powerful." There is a logical reason God is not all powerful, God does not exist.

Who Suffers from a "Hardened Heart"

Some years ago on this blog there was a discussion about what the Bible calls "The hardened heart." The "hardened heart" was the explanation given for why people like me cannot accept the tenets of Christianity. We are unable to believe there are floating spirits and gods or imaginary places people go when the die. Now, a prominent Christian preacher and author has given us a way to diagnose the "hardened heart." It contained some surprises.  Rev. John Piper, who spoke about the hardened heart, said we can see this in a person who lacks "ordinary tenderness and compassion." He went on to describe the characteristics of a person without the affliction of the hardened heart. A healthy person displays empathy and sympathy. Those with the hardened heart are like stone. Young Women can see Bull$hit a Mile Away

Republicans including their Forced Birth subgroup is bother by recent election results and polling. All show young women going to the left. A poll shows young women are 30% more likely to be very liberal than young men. The link advises the Forced Birth community to give young pregnant women an uplifting message. The message suggested is, "Buck up. You've got this. You can give birth and have a happy life." Another way of saying this is, "It will be OK if you miss work and/or are fired because of the birth. If you cannot make your rent payment, it's OK. Somewhere out there is another place to live.
