U. S. Catholic Bishops Have Surrendered on Abortion

Those who read the fine print and look behind the scenes say the U.S. Bishop's organization is not spending much money trying to defeat abortion rights initiatives. Apparently, they see the state-by-state measures to ensure abortion rights as something they cannot win. One slippery Bishop said, "We will not go down without a fight," but that is exactly what they are doing.

The bishops have some money to spend on such things. They threw in millions on the first states to vote on abortion rights like Ohio. They lost big. To the Bishops, abortion is important. But, it is not as important as hanging onto their money.

It is smart of the bishops to throw in the towel on Forced Birth. Perhaps it is starting to dawn on them that harming women is 50% of voters is not good politics or business. Is it possible that have come to realize women are 50% of the population they need to recruit and maintain as members of their denomination?

If the bishops refuse to empty their pocketbook to fight abortion rights, one wonders who else is willing to do that. The link points out the money donated and spent by abortion right swamped that of the bishops. Who would have thought a few years ago abortion rights could raise far more money than the Catholic Church? It has happened in every state where votes on abortion rights have taken place.

It's not necessary to remind that the bishops and dioceses would have more money had they not tolerated sexual abuse for so many years and been forced to pay its victims.
