Catholic Bishop to Biden, "I'm a better Catholic than you."

The Old Testament as well as the words attributed to Jesus return again and again to the implied phrase, "I'm a better Christian (Jew) than you. You are going to hell. I am going to heaven." A Bishop in the U.S. is making waves in the Christian press by saying Biden is a "salad bar Catholic."

So far as I know, Biden has not talked back with public statements to the clergy who refuse to give him communion or who make public statement criticizing his faith like the one in the link. It might be good politics to tell the public he does not agree with religious crackpots like those Catholic clergy. The majority of voters certainly do not like such figures.

It's fun to remember the many times Catholic clergy, and even Catholic commenters of this little blog, have made light of the Protestant branch of Christianity. Catholics say they are glad they have chosen not to be a part of such a chaotic branch of the faith. What? Catholicism is not chaotic. When some clergy give Biden communion and others refuse. This is denomination with an orderly set of beliefs?

The theme "I'm a better Christian than you" is why the Methodist church just split up and the Lutherans before them. These splits are of no importance whatsoever. Neither is it important an air head Bishop called Biden a Salid Bar Christian. Biden can make up his own version of the faith just as the Bishop has made up his.

While Biden is confident about his faith and, I assume, does not care one bit about these holier-than-thou Bishops, the Bishops can harm the vulnerable. These are gay people and trans. Women also have some trouble when they want to contribute but are turned away from insider roles.

I follow a pod cast series in the Lutheran Missouri Synod denomination. One of the humorous things that is repeated often is that people in the denomination have "humility." There is NO humility in the Missouri Lutheran denomination. Yes, preachers repeat that they are "sinners" like everyone else. But the ongoing theme of the denomination is that it is superior to all others in its understanding of the Bible. They are right. Everyone else is wrong.

This is completely in sync with the Bishop who thinks he is a better Catholic than Biden. I think it is correct to say a "really good Christian" looks down at other Christians as unworthy.
