Poland, Almost Complete Ban on Abortions; And lots of Abortions


According to polling in Poland, about one woman out of every three has had an abortion. This, in a country that bans nearly all abortions. Where and how they get abortions is a lesson for all countries and politicians and religious leaders. When women anywhere in the world want abortions, they get them.

Because Poland's laws against abortion are so draconian, those who get abortions need be quite discreet. There are testimonials of armature abortions. Countries where abortion is legal does not require the distance such travel requires in the U.S. There are estimates of abortion in Poland.  

There is a stirring in the political sector of Poland to loosen up the severe anti-abortion laws. The Catholic clergy, of course, will have none of that and there are anti-abortion demonstrations in the streets. The pattern that seems most often repeated is eventually to beat down anti-abortion laws. Poland's three-party coalition is split on the issue. The most powerful elected body is old men who do not intend to change.  Yet, it seems inevitable to change as an older generation dies off. 

Whether it is the deep South in the U.S. or the deep bureaucracy in the Vatican, the motto is "be stubborn, be mean and don't change. It's amazing how much and how often things do change even if it seems to take forever.  

If Poland is like most other countries, business interests eventually will overrule the Catholic Church. Attracting customers and keeping employees often speaks volumes. A question for the practical business persons is, "If abortions are happening anyway, why raise the cost just for some religious thing?"

According to the link, Germany provides lots of abortions for Polish women. Germany is the big driving force for business in Europe.

I hope the mistreatment of women in Poland ends sooner rather than later.

So much about U.S. society and religion can be learned from the Civil War and what happened afterwards. After its defeat, the South started a myth about the unethical soldiers from the North. The South fought for principles of God and states rights. The North did not. Father Frank Pavone, the Ultimate Crook

Recently, the Vatican defrocked Frank Pavone. His diehard fans are outraged. This is because he cleverly manipulated his fans and the press all the while living well from donations and, apparently, abusing some women. By making abortion the "sin" of the century, and himself the main opposition to this one sin, he himself could get away with any sin he pleased.  As the link points out, Pavone was the perfect priest for the Trump era. Trump is so self-important laws have no role in his life. He felt accountable to no one. Women were there to be had. Pavone and Trump are interchangeable.  Pavone was very successful raising money.
