The Political Theater at the Mexican Border


Some law enforcement personnel are speaking privately about what is happening in Texas. The razor wire and tough looking Texas National Guard are merely pretending to stop border crossing from Mexico. Neither Gov. Abbot, President Trump nor President Biden has been able to stem the flow.

Gov. Abbot likes for the press to take pictures of his razor wire near the border. Trump like the imagery of high walls. Both tell a simple story that a politician is doing something about border crossings. People are still coming across. Some of the law enforcement personnel know the obstacles serve a political purpose and do not accomplish much of anything. 

According to news reports, the border crossers are now people from all over the world. China's economic problems are causing large numbers of people with funds to travel to Mexico, hire transportation to the border and cross. They are picked up by government buses and processed for entry. We have all heard of large cities being inundated with new immigrants. My guess is these numbers will be pushed out to smaller and smaller cities. I don't know if or when the numbers will let up. What we do know is there is no apparent way to stop them from coming into the country. 

Possibly, an experience that applies was the depression of the 1930. People left their area of the U.S. in search of something somewhere that might be better. There were large hobo camps all across the country. While hobo camps probably will not be repeated, a visible shortage of housing is going to happen. It was already on its way with the demographic factor of millions approaching retirement without enough income to own or rent housing. Now new arrivals will the added to the mix.

If I'm correct that there is no solution and that numbers will continue to cross our borders it would be helpful if our leaders could admit there is not a way to stop them. If this replaced political chicanery, we could adjust better because we would have reality instead of fiction before us. 

It will be a while before this happens.

The Religious Capitol Invaders May Yet Win

So much about U.S. society and religion can be learned from the Civil War and what happened afterwards. After its defeat, the South started a myth about the unethical soldiers from the North. The South fought for principles of God and states rights. The North did not. It was the South, this propaganda told the country, that had the high moral ground.  The Capitol invaders, encouraged by Trump, swallowed the myth that Biden's election was stolen. Thus, they think they held and still hold the high moral ground. This was reinforced by the cross and prayers during the invasion. Father Frank Pavone, the Ultimate Crook

Recently, the Vatican defrocked Frank Pavone. His diehard fans are outraged. This is because he cleverly manipulated his fans and the press all the while living well from donations and, apparently, abusing some women. By making abortion the "sin" of the century, and himself the main opposition to this one sin, he himself could get away with any sin he pleased.  As the link points out, Pavone was the perfect priest for the Trump era. Trump is so self-important laws have no role in his life. He felt accountable to no one. Women were there to be had. Pavone and Trump are interchangeable.  Pavone was very successful raising money.
