Right Wing Religion Seems to Have no Interest in Global Warming

There is new and alarming information that oceans are warming faster than predicted. More research is needed to understand better the rate and predict its pattern. That it is happening and that the consequences of will be serious seems clear.

Let's review the issues that conservative Republicans and right-wing religious leaders are talking about these days. Here in Iowa, the Republican dominated legislature just started and the concerns of Republicans is still rest rooms in schools. When they are not talking about that it is bills to limit what issues in our history are approved to be discussed in schools. There is still the banning of books. A Forced Birth bill is advancing even though the State's Supreme Court has put a stay on the one passed last year. Every week, it seems, another town announces a drinking water ban because factory hog farms have polluted water sources. The state's city water fees have been raised to pay for fertilizer removal.

The state has big religious organizations which take political stands of the issues of the day. They have all been silent about deteriorating water just as Republicans and religious leaders at the national level have been silent. When you read this an unprecedented winter heat wave will be moving across the Midwest.

Today's amusing bit of news is the hatred of Taylor Smith. Apparently, she is so popular, even with middle aged and senior women, Trump is worried she will endorse Biden. She endorsed Biden in 2020. Trump could counter this popularity by merely saying women and their rights, including the right to abortions, is what he supports. He could also talk seriously about global warming and what he might do about it. Of course, he has no interest in these issues. His daily preoccupation has always been the 24 hour news cycle and he does not like it when Taylor Smith news crowds out whatever he said on any day.

What a beautiful thing it would be if right wing religion and the Republican Party would wake up one day and say, "The health and survival of humans on this planet is a serious issue." Even though these stone age people cannot comprehend reality at this time, maybe the day will come when the light comes on.

Well you know floods, fireballs, wives turning into salt. It’s biblical. It’s in the book of books, God’s plan for their self-righteous “kingdom come”. So they help out. Accelerate the coming or just let it ride until a savior drops from a cloud or descends an escalator or mixes the KoolAid.

Christian pundits, including those who comment on this blog, love using the phrase "what this means is...." In a past time it was used against interracial marriage and more recently against gay marriage and trans people. Acts 1:9-11 says Jesus will return the same way he left, floating through the clouds. What this means is he may arrive coming down an escalator. It also means he can arrive coming down through the clouds in an old Boeing 757. People would understand the meaning of Acts 1 better if the Boeing was repainted with the word JESUS on the side.
