What are the Best Pictures of Jesus

I think the image, the picture in the mind, people have of their god is an accurate prediction of what race they think their god is and its ethnicity. The race of the person will be seen in her god.  All over Africa, paintings are of a black Jesus. In the white U.S. Jesus is white.

The image above is a new one by the artist who is from Spain. He was commissioned to make an image to celebrate this coming Easter. His version of Jesus is causing an uproar in some Catholic and Protestant circles. Apparently, the artist is a Catholic in good standing but critics say his painting was inspired by Satan.

They call the Jesus "effeminate." No greater insult could be made of Jesus than that he is effeminate. Those who quote the Bible say Jesus always referred to men and women as if he was making it clear there are NO crossovers. A painting of a "gay Jesus", especially if approved by the Catholic hierarchy, is cause for "alarm."

All of this is amusing because in reinforces the notion many of us have that every god is a creation of the mind of the believer. If all images presented were the same, a case could be made "god" exists independent of human minds. But when each mind creates a different image, it seems only logical to conclude each mind created its own god.

There is no harm in any of these millions of gods except when it becomes law the one person's god is superior to that of another. As we speak, people with one god are killing people who see another god. A few years ago a Dutch cartoonist was murdered for his depiction of a god. A famous author, Soloman Rushdie, had to go into hiding for several years because he wrote of a fictional god. I would not be surprised is the artist who made the Jesus above received death threats.

There are thousands of gay Christians around the world. If gay people have some imagery of other gay people and want to project that image onto Jesus, they should be encouraged to do so.

  1. The USA Jesus is not Caucasian. Do you have any African American friends? Have you been in their households? They have pictures on their walls of the Last Supper with a Black Jesus and Black disciples.

If you had researched what the Jesus of the Bible may have looked like, you would have said that he had darker skin because he was Jewish. He was a carpenter, so he would have been muscular and "stocky".

Please get to know more people, including African Christians, before you post this nonsense.

I corrected blog to say the Jesus picture of white U.S. is white. I doubt, though, you will find the most reproduced Jesus image, Warner Sallman, billion copies it is said, in the home of black Christians. Sallman, of Scandanavian heritage, was active in the denomination I grew up in. As a child he came to a town 3 miles from our farm and put on a fundraiser--doing a chalk version of the portrait which was auctioned off. It is humorous to see online old versions of Sallman for sale, Jesus much whiter than later versions. As to Jesus "the carpenter", a good share of his life is blank--not in the Bible. Maybe he worked in a gay bar or was a dancer. Not known.
