This Week in 1697 the Puritans Apologized for Witch Hunts

The giant, huge loss of life in mistakes by branches of the Christian faith should be highlighted more prominently. A Christian site did make note of an apology in 1697 by remaining Puritans for the trails and deaths of women believed to be witches. Evidence tells us much of it had to do with taking ownership of dead women's possessions, selling them and dividing up the loot.

Something like that happened with faith based "healing" of gay people, Conversion Therapy. The organization's head man said it was causing harm and apologized.

Both of those would have been good moments in history for the entire enterprise call Christianity to apologize for its false claims. A panel of prominent Christians, including a Pope, could have announced they now know the Bible was written and edited by humans and has no link to any god. "We're sorry we  mislead people. We are closing the world-wide business call Christianity." they could have said.

Another good time to have shut down Christianity was after it was used to justify slavery and segregation. When civil right finally was enacted into law, the Christian enterprise should have gone away in shame.

Today, a large branch of Christianity is being defeated one state at a time by abortion rights victories. For most of its history the faith has been used to give standing of men over women. When women can again obtain abortions across the country it will provide another opportunity for forced birth leaders to apologize to women. Another opportunity to apologize will be when all branches of Christianity embrace women as clergy behind the pulpit.

I should mention I will apologize to all Christians when Jesus appears or some proof is shown God exists. This will give critics a chance to ridicule that I did not see the signs beforehand. If someone would show the evidence now it would save me embarrassment later when I'm proven wrong.

  1. Apologies from Puritans for their trials and murder of women they accused of witchcraft. Apologies for the Conversion Therapy craziness. Do you know John of any apologies for Martin Luther’s raging antisemitism in his later period. His treatise, “On the Jews and Their Lies”, is said to have found fond expression in the hatred of Jews leading to the Nazi’s Final Solution.

“In the treatise, he argues that Jewish synagogues and schools be set on fire, their prayer books destroyed, rabbis forbidden to preach, homes burned, and property and money confiscated. Luther demanded that no mercy or kindness be given to them, afforded no legal protection,[4] and "these poisonous envenomed worms" should be drafted into forced labor or expelled for all time. He also advocates their murder, writing "[W]e are at fault in not slaying them". https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Jews_and_Their_Lies

I guess Martin’s beef was his impotence at converting German Jews to Christianity. The man was crazy pissed. Another pitiful show for Christianity. One wonders where his 65,000 word disquisition is recommended reading today.

    1. Ardy B--I've heard about Martin Luther's hatred of the Jews, otherwise don't know about where it came from or why. Currently, Christian conservatives see under every rock liberals being against Jews. Kind of funny.
