You Can't Fix Stupid


Senator Tommy Tuberville represents the brain dead forced birth cult as well as anyone. His thinking goes like this, "The voting public is quite religious. It hates abortion. If it finds our women in the military get travel money to obtain abortions it will be up in arms. Everyone knows the military needs money for promotions. If Republicans hold up these promotions until women must pay for their travel to abortion clinics we will be swept into offices across the country." Now he has faced a humiliating defeat. All because he is too stupid to see what is right in front of his eyes.

It turns out, both in state-wide votes in several states and in Tuberville's gambit, the majority does not care one way or the other about pregnancies or abortions. Today's majority is not overwhelmed with admiration over couples with many children. It does not condemn couples with no children. It doesn't care if women get abortions. Births and abortions are a side issue, not a central issue. Tommy Tuberville is unaware of this indifference.

The word "stupid" was used several times on a talk show where a military lobbyist talked about Tuberville. A clip of Tuberville was played where he talked of being ignored by the military brass and by President Biden. He said the military and Biden should have called him, Tuberville, and worked out a compromise. Tuberville said he was ready for some "reasonable" back and forth negotiation, but the other side was unreasonable and refused to negotiate. Of course, Biden and the military would not negotiate. They knew they were headed toward a 100% win. Why give away anything when you are in the cat bird seat? 

On the national scene, Tuberville is a gift to Democrats. We need anti-abortion zealots like him on the news every day pointing out how whacko they are and, in turn, making Democrats look like the reasonable and competent party. Nothing wins like abortion rights.

Tuberville mirrors Trump in that he does not understand reality. With Trump, there was cheating in the election and that is the only reason Biden won. With Tuberville, abortion is a sin and sin should receive no taxpayer money. No one should vote for candidates or a party that is out of touch with reality.

The Religious Capitol Invaders May Yet Win

So much about U.S. society and religion can be learned from the Civil War and what happened afterwards. After its defeat, the South started a myth about the unethical soldiers from the North. The South fought for principles of God and states rights. The North did not. It was the South, this propaganda told the country, that had the high moral ground.  The Capitol invaders, encouraged by Trump, swallowed the myth that Biden's election was stolen. Thus, they think they held and still hold the high moral ground. This was reinforced by the cross and prayers during the invasion. Father Frank Pavone, the Ultimate Crook

Recently, the Vatican defrocked Frank Pavone. His diehard fans are outraged. This is because he cleverly manipulated his fans and the press all the while living well from donations and, apparently, abusing some women. By making abortion the "sin" of the century, and himself the main opposition to this one sin, he himself could get away with any sin he pleased.  As the link points out, Pavone was the perfect priest for the Trump era.
