The Removal of Demons Lives On

Catholic priests still practice something called exorcism. I've read it claims to remove "demons." The Pope believes demons, hell, a ghost and rest of that imaginary work really exist. Now, we learn of a preacher in Missouri who is convinced autism is caused by a demon. He got elected to the local School Board and lectured everyone at a public meeting about the demon he knows about. He has now resigned. When it comes to demons, it's a whack-a-mole contest.

We have an autistic granddaughter with who is now 22 years old and just graduated from college. I can't imagine she would have survived if she had been born into this guy's church or if the public schools she attended treated her as if she was possessed with a "demon." When commenters to this blog remind me of all the hospitals Christian churches have started and ask me not to scoff at Christianity I remind myself of the terrible harm Christianity has and continues to do.

There is a front-page article in the local paper about the effect of a law passed by the Christian/Republican Iowa legislature and signed by the deep Baptist governor, Kim Reynolds. The newspaper tells of the hardship a newly passed Iowa law. The law prohibits medical in the state from offering services to children who are transitioning to a different gender than they were assigned at birth. Several parents tell of the success their teen has had since beginning the transition. Their outlook has changed to optimistic, grades have improved and as well as child/parent relationships. Now, however, they have to drive several hours to Minnesota to get services. In Minnesota, availability of services is limited because of the new patients from Iowa. I suppose trans is caused by demons. I have read it is a tool of Satan. Yes, Christianity deserves to be scoffed at.

Scoring political points is much more important to most Republican politicians than taking the time and effort to understand the complexities of human beings. That schools and medical facilities are prohibited from providing services the public wants and medical science has given the green light is the worst thing imaginable.

We would do well to see both Republican politicians and Christian operatives with great suspicion.
