"The Current Generation of Women is Different"

When the outcome of elections allowed the Supreme Court to be stacked with anti-abortion Christians, the logical question was, "How was that allowed to happen?" That is, how did Republican Christians gain control of Congress and the Presidency and put a religious view of the fetus into law?

I wondered myself why women I have known who vote for Republicans but believe in equal rights kept putting these dufuses in office? The implied answer was that these Republicans did not really intend to outlaw abortion. It was just a game to get low tax and anti-government Republicans into office.

Now, however, a different reality is apparent. Roe was overturned. Those clinics able to provide abortions are seeing as much as twice their former traffic. And, abortion providers who talk to young women find the old reluctance to push back in politics found in the past has been replaced. A majority of the current generation of young women, if they are Republicans, will not put up with the old game. This explains why the Republican Party has been blind-sided in recent elections losing in areas they have previously won.

Today I read a quote from President Trump's remarks to the "Christian Coalition." He did not endorse a national ban on abortion. He cleverly said there is a "federal role" in abortion. A "federal role" might be to leave it to states. That has been his position all along.

And his competitor, DeSantis, who pretends to be a rough and tough take no prisoners Republican signed his anti-abortion bill after hours. He is afraid.

There always were force-birth Republican operatives who were wary of the political price of overturning Roe. They should have abandoned the Party when voters in the primaries chose Donald Trump. Tump, of course, did not and still does not understand lots of things in politics. He should have vetted Supreme Court nominees and extracted a promise each would keep talking up overturning Roe be never try to do it actually. They could have kept on with the facade of opposing by requiring women look at ultrasounds and wait hours or days before getting abortions.

I think a prevailing view among young women is to not focus on questions about abortions at "six weeks," "eight weeks" or any weeks. The view is forget about your "weeks" and let's talk about why this entire decision is not mine but yours.

Hat's off to the new resistance by young women.

    1. helper--I've been in and seen many gay pride parades. There is plenty of nudity or near nudity. A couple of years ago I walked and chatted with a young woman who was 99% nude but spray painted with blue paint. In this same parade were floats and sign from half a dozen churches. Would a church marching in a gay rights parade with nudes be committing "apostasy?" On top of that, these sinful churches who did not read in their Bibles this was all sin were TOSSING CANDY TO CHILDREN. Not just a sign welcoming children mind you but enticing then with candy. Was the frontal nudes with the sign tossing candy. Goodness, the sin in this world is so complicated.

    2. “Over the weekend, a short video circulated widely on social media of an unidentified person at a New York City march during Pride festivities saying, “We’re coming for your children.”

In the 21-second clip, circulated by a right-wing web streamer channel, dozens of people march in the streets and are clearly heard chanting, “We’re here, we’re queer, we’re not going shopping.” But one voice that is louder than the crowd — it’s not clear whose, or whether the speaker was a member of the LGBTQ community — is heard saying at least twice, “We’re here, we’re queer, we’re coming for your children.” “

  2. Just to be clear, this story was fact checked and was not the message of those gay people in the parade. The sign was parody of Christians who claim gay people want to convert children. When parody gets too close to those who are the target, some Christians, they cannot and will never understand it.
