Republicans are Trying to Dodge Their Forced Birth Narrative

There have been enough election cycles in enough places so Republican have measured the damage they have taken from repeal of Roe. Women and the men who support them know the Republican Party is the enemy of good opportunities in family and careers. They are test marketing some gimmick legislation they think might divert attention from their anti women narrative.

Of course they are throwing money and benefits to religious "pregnancy centers" that offer ideology against abortion and some support for new mothers.  These centers have a reputation for giving pregnant women incorrect information about their pregnancies. They are known to tell women they are too far along to get a legal abortion when later women have found out they could have had the abortion.

Republicans are also throwing money at programs to help women get through pregnancies. They are tiny amounts compared to the over 100 K it takes to raise a child. If Republicans cared one twit about women they would support abortion rights and better medical care to women in general.

New stories come out each day about women who either nearly died or did die because of the rule, "abortions are available to save the life of the mother." This rule is the most cynical of the "right-to-life" laws and schemes. When abortions can be performed is not spelled out. A doctor that does not want to risk a license to practice has to guess when a woman's life is dangerously close to ending in order to perform an abortion. It is common for "right-to-life" operatives to scoff at this claiming to know that judges would give a doctor the benefit of the doubt. We can see from some Supreme Court Judges a judge may well feel pressure from God to throw the book at any doctor who does an abortion for any reason whatsoever.

Step by step, the public is seeing through the lies and misdirection of those running for office in the Republican Party. Claims they make about wanting to help rather than harm women are being seen for what they are, dishonesty.

It would be easy for Republicans to simply have no position about abortions. Republicans have traditionally been for less government. They would do themselves and the women of our country a favor by simply saying consumers of health care should be the ones deciding which services are important, not the government.
