Political Right Thinks it can Solve the Pronoun Problem

One thing you can count on from the political/religious right is when they say "We want less government" they actually want more. Now they want to prevent children and teachers from using the "she" pronoun for children who identify as female but who's birth certificate lists them a male (and visa versa).

There is a problem with this. A professor at a Catholic university recently explained why God should not be referred to exclusively as "He." She says God does not have a gender. That is, God is bigger than a gender.

If this idea of a genderless God gains traction in the faith, it will present an interesting problem in some states. Legislatures are passing bill saying there are only TWO genders. All references must be referred to with one of these two pronouns.  If there is a religion section in history or social studies and the teacher feels he/she cannot discuss God as either male or female, what pronoun will she be allowed to use. Further, she may claim her religious liberty is being taken when she cannot refer to God as "they." This is really fun to anticipate.

In those states where genders must be either male or female and where no one can change gender, will it be applied forcefully to objects. For example, ships are almost always referred to with the female pronoun, "There she sails." Will it be a violation is a student or teacher decides change that gender and in a paper to refer to a ship, or all ships, as male, "There he sails"?

Then there is the problem called Mother Nature. Will a gender change there be against the law?

From what one reads, it is becoming more common for young people to recognize the gender assigned to them at birth is not entirely or not at all the gender they are. One has to assume there have always been such people but this was a feeling that was kept under wraps in the past. Now it is more often shared with others.

If states pass laws that schools and teachers cannot allow students to use a new gender on their school records it does not mean the students themselves cannot tell their friends and family? Tom may remain "Tom" on all school records but be Tammy to everyone in the school. Laws passed by legislators cannot, and I would predict will not, be successful in redirecting individual minds to find a different gender than the one they know to be theirs.

The Republican Big Government is trying to change what people think and how they think. No matter how many laws and how many new government employees are hired to regulate pronoun use, they will be unsuccessful.
