How Did Trans Become the SIN OF THE WEEK

Recently, the City of Calgary, Canada, passed an ordinance making it not legal for protestors to block the sidewalk used by the public to enter a public building. Since its passage, the ordinance has been used to arrest some protestors including a local preacher. What could go on in a public building that would generate so much passion protestors and a preacher block an entrance and allow themselves to be arrested? The answer is trans. At this moment in all of the North American continent any mention, display or performance of trans gets the Bible juices flowing.

The link story is about a program in the public library in Calgary that features men in drag reading stories to children on Saturday mornings. The preacher arrested said this is a dangerous practice. He and others tried to block the entrance to the city's library.

Men dressing as women is comedy apparently as old as human beings. The Bible tells of it being done back then.

Since there is no data showing children looking at trans men has any influence whatsoever on a child's gender self-identification, it is logical to ask, "Why are Bible thumpers so upset about men in drag?" The answer lies in the way Christianity is marketed.

The Bible lists so many sins it is impossible to know if some are important and other not. This opens the door for opportunistic Christians to pick and choose which sins and which parts of society to demonize. Groups and behaviors which garner emotions are the best bets for touching emotional buttons.

It was black people marrying white people for a hundred years. As immigrants arrived in the U.S. they brought with them their own favorite demons. But decades after decade, one aspect of using sin to fire up donations and recruit Christians was obvious. There had to constantly be new sins run up the flagpole. It did not work to demonize the old sins forever. That is why there are many different demonizations every decade. A few decades ago it black and white children in the same classroom then women working outside the home. In recent decades it was gays getting married.

Anti trans is just one more in the parade of sins to be demonized. Soon it will be ignored and another sin will be at the top of the demonization list.
