Groups Fly From Texas to New Mexico for Abortions, All Expenses Paid


I suspect there are other news accounts like this and more to come. A columnist traveled with a group of young women from Texas, where they could not get abortions because they were too far along, to New Mexico where the abortions were legal. I found their individual stories interesting but it is sad money has to be raised, I have sent groups such money, to pay for this travel. It's ridiculous. 

The backdrop to this is a draconian Texas law written to clearly signal it is worth risking a patient's life in order to save a fetus. Even when a doctor can see conditions will probably develop threatening the mother, the doctor cannot do an abortion until the mother's fever reaches an alarming level. To do so earlier might cost the doctor his/her license. This applies even in cases where the fetus is already dead or will die at birth. Some women are now taking the State of Texas to court. Prospects for success are not good because Texas Republican judges are steeped in Republican politics. Women can be sacrificed. 

The number of women in the U.S. now being provided airfare and abortion services from donated money is not known. There are press reports that several million dollars have come in to pay transportation of women from anti-abortion states to ones where abortions are available. I've wondered how many billionaires have opened their pocketbooks to fund these abortions.

One woman in this group told of visiting a religious run pregnancy center. She was told she was not far enough along in her pregnancy to be concerned. When a short time later she went to a legitimate clinic she learned she was too far along to get an abortion. I don't know why this pregnancy center gave the young woman faulty information but those who provide abortions say it is common for pregnancy centers to lie to women about the state of their pregnancy. The only explanation for this is the religious centers want to trick women into not having abortions. 

In most of the anti abortion states it will be possible for women to drive to a nearby state to get abortions. Texas, as we know, is so big it will require our donations to pay air fare to other states for abortions.

So much about U.S. society and religion can be learned from the Civil War and what happened afterwards. After its defeat, the South started a myth about the unethical soldiers from the North. The South fought for principles of God and states rights. The North did not. It was the South, this propaganda told the country, that had the high moral ground.  The Capitol invaders, encouraged by Trump, swallowed the myth that Biden's election was stolen. Father Frank Pavone, the Ultimate Crook

Recently, the Vatican defrocked Frank Pavone. His diehard fans are outraged. This is because he cleverly manipulated his fans and the press all the while living well from donations and, apparently, abusing some women. By making abortion the "sin" of the century, and himself the main opposition to this one sin, he himself could get away with any sin he pleased.  As the link points out, Pavone was the perfect priest for the Trump era. Trump is so self-important laws have no role in his life. He felt accountable to no one. Women were there to be had. Pavone and Trump are interchangeable.  Pavone was very successful raising money. In his mind, abortion was so important in Catholic beliefs and he was so important in anti-abortion the money he raised opposing it was his to do with what he liked.
