For 20 Years There Have Been Ordained Women Priests

In the early 2000's, seven women were on a boat on the Danube. With them were two Bishops from Germany. The Bishops ordained the women. The women had received the same legal ordination as men. That is, the authority that was given Peter by Jesus was in place and passed on to these women.

After the Seven Danube had taken their vows, two were made Bishops. Carrying with them the linage from Peter this group has ordained others. There are over 200 women priests and bishops.

Of course, Catholic hierarchy quickly tried to stamp out what it considered heresy. It excommunicated the male Bishops that started it all as well as anyone else down the line it could stomp on. But the linage from Peter remains. These ordained women carry on the faith.

The prohibition of women only began about the year 1,000.  An argument is made there was many women clergy before then. When did the church began its men only practice and what are the true and legitimate rules? One of the women who is now a priest says she decided not to leave the denomination, like most of her peers, but stay and fight for her share of it. As a child she questioned a Bishop about the limited role of women. The Bishop blew her off saying the usual blather, Jesus gave men the church so there is nothing to discuss. The girl thought, no, we all own the church. I'm going to fight you for my share.

Today, there are more ex Catholics than there are in any Protestant denomination. Even with the growing number of Hispanics the number of Catholics continues to decline. The male only clergy and celibate priest theory is not working.

The female priests use gender that precludes God being either male or female. This, according to many scholars, is a good generalization of what the Bible says about God.

Catholic condemnation of Jews was its practice for a long time. While I suppose many were angry when this policy was dropped, it was negotiable. This experience tells us women clergy, gay marriage and abortion are all negotiable. It will just require some time.

  1. The term “priestess” is often defined as a female priest of a non-christian religion. A Catholic female priest is now a “Womanpriest”? The prohibition will be completely lifted when they ordain the first Roman Catholic Priestess. The linked article mentioned prayers to a “Mother-Father God”. My take is that Father God and Mother-Father God refer to roles of the deity in the lives of believers, not its sex. Wonderful. But the institutionalized patriarchy of the RCC seems to tell different story. They best ordain more priestesses before they completely exhaust the remaining cadre of priests. Some priests in rural areas have to serve 3 or 4 parishes on the sabbath. They could flatten the org chart and get some of those glitzy folks out where they can save some souls. Burn the stars, shine the deadwood.

Better to close a church than to have a woman priest. It's not in the Bible, but Catholics must be certain Jesus also told Peter off the record, "Just remember, no women, gays or trans preaching. And if anyone remarks about what you are wearing, it's a robe, not a dress. I myself do not wear dresses, only robes."

Watched a couple of episodes of “MASH” the other day in my robe. After watching I realized I was as desensitized seeing Klinger in a dress as his comrades.

    3. Why would the writers of MASH put such SIN on the screen. Could it be millions of little boys identified themselves as girls after being groomed by Klinger. :)
