Migration of Black People from North to South is Happening

The large cities in Georgia turned the tide against Herschel Walker. No doubt it happened for many reasons but the increase in black voter registration was larger than for any other group. Black people moving from North to South are empowering those who never left the South to register and vote their interests. It's like a political earthquake.

Of course, Herschel Walker is black. He was pushed to file as a cynical political maneuver by white Republicans, especially Donald Trump. I read he got about 3% of the black vote.  Then there was the black woman, Stacie Adams who lost to the white Governor Kemp. Probably Kemp got lots of black votes. There are reasons people like one candidate and not another. My guess is that Kemp worked to get the black vote just as he worked to get the white vote and he was successful.

There is and has always been lots of migration in the United States. I have heard most cities have so much in and out migration that the number in and out equals the total population of a city every seven years. In fact, migration is one of the reasons I like living in larger cities more than smaller rural communities and small cities.

I went to graduate school in Missouri, a state that is both South and North, though I would say more South than North. When Lyndon Johnson went all in for racial integration another student who was from the deep South told me, "I wonder if Johnson knows Democrats have lost the South." Indeed, they did.

But, someone needed to take one for the team. Democrats needed to lose the South in order for the U.S. to move forward on racial equality. Some things are worth losing elections.

Republicans should have won everything Georgia and Arizona. That Democrats are winning some races in both states indicates society is doing what it has always done, churn and change.

Lots of anti-abortion state candidates, especially incumbents, won. Churn and change will affect these backwards and male dominated kinds of candidates eventually. It always has.

  1. Maybe the reason Kemp won was because he beat Stacey Abrams. No one knew who Stacie Adams was. Like Beto and a few others who have sucked the Dem riches without any results in multiple cycles, they will be absent from any future ballots. Stacie Adams ... and you comment on political issues as somewhat of an expert.
