The Pope's Upcoming Synod Considered Heresy by Conservative Catholics

Christianity of many kinds, Catholics and Protestants, are trending in the same direction. I've mentioned I follow the debates in the denomination of my childhood, the Evangelical Covenant Church. There is lots of discussion about moving from the piety of my time way back when, alcohol, farm work on Sunday, ballroom dancing, card playing, etc. was condemned to the new piety of not mentioning such "sins" condemning those who frown on Black Lives Matter. The pious Christian accepts all.

There are other versions of this in Protestantism that say Jesus accepts everyone "as they are." That is the alcoholic, homosexual and skeptic.

The paper proposed by Catholic staff, given direction by the Pope I assume because he called for the synod, sounds like it came right out of the liberal Protestant denominations. I don't actually think it was copied from those sources. Rather, it is seen by all with intellectual chops as the only path forward for all of Christianity.

According to critics, the Catholic document to be considered says the church shall be accepting and practice inclusion. Whenever Christians become judgmental, it is because they have become separated from God. Catholics are to welcome all, not point fingers of judgment.

Critics don't like this because being judgmental, condemning others and calling them sinners, is their all-time favorite thing to do. It's outrageous to them if they themselves are required to behave differently. These critics don't want to accept women who had abortions and certainly not those who provided abortions. And married gay people? Or, divorced and remarried Catholics? They deserve a good tongue lashing.

The critic in the link says the synod document turns the entire Catholic faith upside down. Those who are to be singled out for condemnation are now to be accepted as good and decent. How delightful. If that branch of the faith, and all branches, could lighten up on treating women as lessors and those who live their personal lives as best they can with divorce and modern ideas and just let people believe Jesus was a kind and accepting mythical person, Christianity might have a future.

It isn't just that new ideas are allowed in the tent at the coming synod, it's also that a new set of enlightened people might be given the keys to the store. That's exactly what the Pope wants.
