Doctors Who Were "Pro Life" Now Give Abortions


When I was a Mayor, I was invited to many events and whenever possible attended them. It was my job.

I went to a big banquet where the featured speaker was a woman doctor who once worked in an abortion clinic. She now opposed abortion. She seemed like a nice person. Since then, I've seen advertisements of others like her who make the pro-life banquet circuit.

With all the news coverage of the Roe reversal, the news is flooded with stories it did not have before. One is about doctors who opposed abortion but now provide them. One is Dr. Jennifer Villicencio.

Dr. Villicencio grew up a devout Catholic in Cuba. It never occurred to her she would support or perform abortions. They were wrong and against her faith. Then she needed a prescription for "morning after" pills and decided to stop and pick it up at a Planned Parenthood clinic. While walking in protestors called her a whore. "Why are they saying this when I'm one of them?" she wondered. She realized some of her group were not just against abortion but were filled with hate for women. She chatted with other young women patients. She learned each had a circumstance that brought on a need for the clinic's services just as she did. She had additional experiences that brought her around. The irony of the clinic experience is the angry protestor who called her a whore might have thought he was driving women away from abortion when just the opposite happened. 

How on earth can someone who "knows" abortion is "murder" come to see it as not murder? It happens because every day, many people recognize that the notion of one fertilized cell as a human being is bonkers. There no reason to believe such a thing and clear thinking will lead to a conclusion it is not true. That's why some decide to support abortion.

A rational person will conclude there is competition between a fetus and its mother. Saving a fetus to birth sometimes takes the life its mother. Complicated factors come into play such as whether or not a woman can give birth later by removing a fetus today.

The Religious Capitol Invaders May Yet Win

So much about U.S. society and religion can be learned from the Civil War and what happened afterwards. After its defeat, the South started a myth about the unethical soldiers from the North. The South fought for principles of God and states rights. The North did not. It was the South, this propaganda told the country, that had the high moral ground.  The Capitol invaders, encouraged by Trump, swallowed the myth that Biden's election was stolen. Thus, they think they held and still hold the high moral ground. This was reinforced by the cross and prayers during the invasion. Father Frank Pavone, the Ultimate Crook

Recently, the Vatican defrocked Frank Pavone. His diehard fans are outraged. This is because he cleverly manipulated his fans and the press all the while living well from donations and, apparently, abusing some women. By making abortion the "sin" of the century, and himself the main opposition to this one sin, he himself could get away with any sin he pleased.  As the link points out, Pavone was the perfect priest for the Trump era. Trump is so self-important laws have no role in his life. He felt accountable to no one. Women were there to be had. Pavone and Trump are interchangeable.  Pavone was very successful raising money. In his mind, abortion was so important in Catholic beliefs and he was so important in anti-abortion the money he raised opposing it was his to do with what he liked.
