Leaving the Catholic Church Over Biden Communion

At least one prominent Catholic has announced he is leaving the Catholic Church because a San Francisco Bishop has refused to give President Biden communion. The writer said he had hoped Bishops would have enough humility to focus of their own shortcomings instead of the shortcomings of Catholic political leaders. The Pope has spoken out against shunning Catholic politicians. Now he has appointed in new Cardinal in San Diego who agrees with him.

The entire Christian church is coming apart over two issues which should not be controversies. Current cultural disagreements have been used by religious operatives to sex up those in the pews. I suppose it helps revenue as well.

The Methodist denomination's facture is too complicated for me to understand. It seems to be a moving target with liberal first leaving the denomination and now some conservatives splitting off for their own purposes. I could see some additional splintering and some groups who had split off uniting again. Politics is like that.

In all of that, the worst thing for Catholics and the best thing for its opponents is turning down Biden for communion. The absurdity is highlighted by the fact some clergy will still serve him. That indicates there is no absolute level of purity. There are only factions going their separate ways.

The inability of the religious right, especially well educated Catholic clergy, to understand the basic way people see them continues to amaze. I can understand that when one is blinded by the belief there are invisible gods floating about and humans can come back from being dead it is hard to engage with reality.

All seminaries should have a few classes called, "Reality." Future clergy would be trained that the public looks with doubt on all the invisible beings and life after death. Better to assume, seminarians would be taught, people will not believe what we teach you here.
