Killing Women in Poland Where Abortion is Illegal


A news story is alive in Poland of a woman carrying a deformed and not viable fetus which was infecting the woman. Doctors would not remove the fetus because there was a "heartbeat." When the "heartbeat" finally stopped, it was too late for the woman and she died.

The story illustrates the problem with laws the allow abortion only when "the life of the mother is endangered" or she "is the victim of rape." Doctors can be sued and/or lose their practices if challenges are made over their decisions. The laws are not clear enough for timid doctors to make decisions that save the lives of women. Instead, religious rules are put it place that kill women.

In conservative religion, killing women by denying precautionary abortions is not murder. Only abortion is murder. I suppose women who die because of procrastination about an abortion die because it was "God's will." Or, maybe it happens because of the sin of the woman who became pregnant. 

A physicians' group in Poland told doctors they should not delay abortions when the outcome of not doing them, death of a woman, is inevitable. Doctors should recognize this and proceed with the abortion. If it were this simple it could be put into laws making the doctor not responsible if someone second guessed his/her decision. Apparently, there is no protection for the doctors so some of them take chances with the law and others do not. 

The statistics of women who die from births or women who die from delayed abortions never appears on Christian websites. At least I have never seen them. It is as if they never happen. It is so much better politically to create the impression stopping one abortion is saving one "life." That some lives are lost by not allowing abortions makes the political narrative too complicated and is bound to hurt fund raising. 

The truth is anti-abortion laws kill women. This has always been known. So long this truth is not known widely anti abortion politics will continue to have some success. When it is revealed as it has been in some other countries voters turn to favor abortion rights.

This has yet to happen in Poland.

So much about U.S. society and religion can be learned from the Civil War and what happened afterwards. After its defeat, the South started a myth about the unethical soldiers from the North. The South fought for principles of God and states rights. The North did not. Father Frank Pavone, the Ultimate Crook

Recently, the Vatican defrocked Frank Pavone. His diehard fans are outraged. This is because he cleverly manipulated his fans and the press all the while living well from donations and, apparently, abusing some women. By making abortion the "sin" of the century, and himself the main opposition to this one sin, he himself could get away with any sin he pleased.  As the link points out, Pavone was the perfect priest for the Trump era.
