Once it was Witches, Now It's Abortion and Trans: Christian Obsessions Never End

A news story that should be big was barely covered recently. It was an apology by the Church of Scotland for thousands of (mostly) women who were tortured, convicted then killed for practicing witchcraft. It brings to mind the various reasons non believers give for their non belief. One is, "Children would not suffer and die if there was really a God." Witches tortured and killed in the name of God carried the doubt to its ultimate conclusion, there is no God or god. The practice of killing mostly women for witchcraft carried over to the U.S. In the U.S. the blame is defused a bit because there is no state church. However, the church is just as bad or worse.

Everyday, at several places in the U.S. women walk past hissing and praying Christians who call them murders. They are women going into abortion clinics. The only reason for the hissing is religious. Now, the hissing nut cases are putting this religious view into national laws. It's the same law as Scotland had against witches--just different names for the obsessions.

A couple of days ago, a pair of pictures came across my Face Book feed. One was of a preschool child at the beginning of the school year. This was a cute little boy. Next to it was a picture of the same child at the end of the preschool year, now a cute little girl. If this is a case where the child let it be known the gender assigned at birth was incorrect, good for her and her family for recognizing this. The Christian right treats gender change the same as it did witchcraft. It is something evil that must be stopped.

The truth is there never were witches. That being the case, Christians back in the day were completely unaffected by anything these women did or any thoughts or beliefs they might have had. Gender change, is now an obsession of the Christian right. It is another in the long list of obsessions including witchcraft and one-cell humans that do not affect lives of other people are the business of no one else.

If history repeats itself, we can expect conservative Christianity to move on from its current obsession with gender to some other obsession. Whatever the next obsession is, we can be certain it is cruel and will damage the lives of many people. If I were a religious person I would pray Christians purge their cruel attitudes, beliefs and practices.

  1. One wonders if obsession is manifested by one or some within the atheist community. I suspect it is. Possibly right here?

    1. helper "Possibly right here." Atheists are just not able to form into big organizations and raise lots of money to condemn sin. We need to hear from a fictious god about sins like being born a trans or gay. When Southern and some Northern Christians heard interracial marriage was against some god's will we were not there to learn we should hate. We have never heard a human life begins at conception so we could put women in jail. We do get bothered, maybe obsessed is the word, when those who heard from fictious gods tell us we need to pass laws based on what they heard from their imaginary voice.
