Some Churches are Preaching About the "Stolen Election"
Whether to be surprised or alarmed, I'm not sure. But there are mega churches preaching that Biden stole the election from Trump.
That lies are being preached from the pulpit is not a surprise to atheists. They consider the entire Christian message to be a fabrication. Start with the virgin birth, end with a completely dead person becoming again alive. Add comfy places to lounge after death for some and a purgatory for others. It is not a big leap for preachers trained to preach one kind of nonsense to move on to another.
The made up stuff about a virgin birth is different, however, from the made up stuff about the 2020 election. We don't have the virgin birth/resurrection group storming the Capital with weapons. Preachers lying about the election are exciting the dangerous ones among us.
The link explains right wing evangelicals have made a living for hundreds of years preaching the evils of sin about to take over the nation. As time went on, the evil sins were attributed to liberal politics and politicians. The new shift is the evil is in those who stole the 2020 election from Trump. Apparently, it goes over well and fills the collection plates. Polls show 60% of evangelicals believe Biden stole the election. When evangelist Franklin Graham was asked, he said "Trump believes the election was stolen. I tend to believe him." When the pastor of a large church in Denver criticized the Jan. 6th attack, he lost 100 members. Paula White prayed for God to overturn the election.
While preachers preach, Trump's lawyers continue to file on behalf of the over through theory. Perhaps fundraising in those churches helps to subsidize Trump and the political money he appears to intend to use for himself.
Looking at all of this from the outside, there is a certain satisfaction from those who say political preaching causes some to leave the faith.
