Shouldn't We Be Alarmed at those Blowing Shofars


Among the many things I have not understood in my long life and do not understand today is why everyone does not see the danger in devout religion. The great event, 9/11 was about religion. Supposedly Putin's invasion of Ukraine is dripping with religion. Instead of understanding the danger of religion, our leaders, and I suppose most of the public, saw it as an opportunity to dive deeper into religion. After 9/11 President W. Bush gave an address from the National Cathedral. It was a political opportunity he could not pass up. It would have been more patriotic to have declared there will be no more political or governmental events in that building. 

The shofar is the long pipe that is blown for ceremonial purposes in some religions. Its history is that of a call for spiritual warfare. Today in the U.S. spiritual warfare is Christian nationalism. There are millions of people in the U.S. heeding the shofar. A bunch attacked our Capitol in Jan. 6th.

Several people from near where I am living went to D.C. to attack the Capitol. In this morning's paper one who was arrested with a cattle prod was discussed. He shocked the security guard several times with his cattle prod and the fellow had a heart attack. I believe the guard survived but the local guy is probably praying for a short prison term. Christian nationalism is anything but an asset to this country.

The call for Christian nationalism does not seem to be abating--maybe is stronger than ever. We hear of Christians supporting Putin's religious army in Ukraine. Why not bomb, destroy and kill if it is God's will.

According to the link, the shofar is becoming more and more popular in churches. It is said to mean

    ...the world is moving toward the end times...war on earth, culminating in the Armageddon, and God's participation in the final battle against evil.

While not all Christians believe such nonsense, many believe in parts of it. Thank goodness for atheists who believe none of it.

 The shofar and Christian nationalism are tucked away in the Christian package. All other Christians should be working against these whackos. There is a lot more enthusiasm against trans sexual children than there is for prosecuting Christians who invaded our Capitol.

We can all agree most Catholic priests are fine people and not guilty of sexual abuse. What Catholics must face, however, it that their church harbors executives who are dishonest . There is an incredible story about the Argentine Bishop Zanchetta. The Pope worked with him in Argentina and they are considered friends. Around 2015 Zanchetta sent nude pictures of himself and they began circulating world wide. Who Suffers from a "Hardened Heart"

Some years ago on this blog there was a discussion about what the Bible calls "The hardened heart." The "hardened heart" was the explanation given for why people like me cannot accept the tenets of Christianity. We are unable to believe there are floating spirits and gods or imaginary places people go when the die. Now, a prominent Christian preacher and author has given us a way to diagnose the "hardened heart." It contained some surprises.  Rev. John Piper, who spoke about the hardened heart, said we can see this in a person who lacks "ordinary tenderness and compassion." He went on to describe the characteristics of a person without the affliction of the hardened heart. A healthy person displays empathy and sympathy. Those with the hardened heart are like stone. Young Women can see Bull$hit a Mile Away

Republicans including their Forced Birth subgroup is bother by recent election results and polling. All show young women going to the left. A poll shows young women are 30% more likely to be very liberal than young men. The link advises the Forced Birth community to give young pregnant women an uplifting message. The message suggested is, "Buck up. You've got this. You can give birth and have a happy life." Another way of saying this is, "It will be OK if you miss work and/or are fired because of the birth. If you cannot make your rent payment, it's OK. Somewhere out there is another place to live. We don't know where but be optimistic."   This is an add on to the new version of the Forced Birth message, "We're for both the baby and the mother." They are not and never have been for the mother.
