Privatizing Abortions is on the Way


A professor from the conservative University of Chicago, a place that loves to see the marketplace decide things, believes as I do abortions will be paid for through private fundraising. They will be available within driving distances of anti-women states and cost little of nothing for women who want them. 

We've seen the amount of money the right politician can make by bilking the public. Trump is using millions of dollars to help bail out his failing hotels and resorts. Huge amounts of money have gone to anti- abortion groups. Now these same groups will profit by spreading the myths they can change states with liberal abortion laws. Expect to see leaders with big cars and houses.

The amount of money raised to keep abortions available to women in anti-abortion states has grown rapidly. There has not been a clear picture of how much travel is going on but apparently there is lots of it. As I mentioned recently, the long border Texas and Mexio share will present opportunities for abortion medicines to reach many thousands of women. U.S. money assisting Mexican supply channels will expedite this. 

Politics and business being what they are, successful fundraising by abortion rights groups to pay for abortions means the competition will have to step up. When women get abortions for economic reasons, they can't afford a child nor time off from work, anti abortion zealots will need to ante up. They will need to take away the economic advantages of abortion by making childbirth present economic opportunities. They will need offers of assistance for the birth and with the some $30,000 it requires to raise a child.

We have to recall a fact about children. Back in the time of early agriculture, children were not an economic burden but a profit center. When it took lots of labor to raise and sell food children contributed to the income of a family. Economists called them "producer goods." With mechanized agriculture and migration to urban areas children became "consumer goods." Children today compete with other things people buy with their income. Anti abortion operatives will never defeat abortion until they recognize and address this fact. Many millions are now collected to pay operatives working against women's choice laws. Why not put that money to a productive use, pay it to women who give birth instead of having abortions.

The Religious Capitol Invaders May Yet Win

So much about U.S. society and religion can be learned from the Civil War and what happened afterwards. After its defeat, the South started a myth about the unethical soldiers from the North. The South fought for principles of God and states rights. The North did not. It was the South, this propaganda told the country, that had the high moral ground.  The Capitol invaders, encouraged by Trump, swallowed the myth that Biden's election was stolen. Father Frank Pavone, the Ultimate Crook

Recently, the Vatican defrocked Frank Pavone. His diehard fans are outraged. This is because he cleverly manipulated his fans and the press all the while living well from donations and, apparently, abusing some women. By making abortion the "sin" of the century, and himself the main opposition to this one sin, he himself could get away with any sin he pleased.  As the link points out, Pavone was the perfect priest for the Trump era.
