Religion Once Cornered the Market on Truth. Trump Now Has It

Probably millions of times, preachers/priests stood before congregations and proclaimed their message from the Bible was the truth. Anything listeners heard elsewhere was not the truth.

This has changed. The large portion of what is called the evangelical community, including lots of Catholics, now say ex President Trump's reelection was stolen from him by Biden. This claim is now the truth to these Christians--it originated with Trump, not the Bible. If it is not true the election was filled with fraud why should those of us not in the faith believe those in the faith who claim they are telling the truth about religion? A little self reflection by Trump supporters who remain in the faith would not be a bad thing.

Churches and the faith are no longer competitive with Trump as marketers of truth. Trump has a monopoly and the faith is on the outside trying to get in the game.

From what one reads, Trump is still raising lots of money. I wonder if any of the money he raises was previously donated to churches. If seems inevitable at least some was. Trump may well do what he has done with parts of the Republican Party and with many candidates, endorse me and I will give you money. Oppose me and you will starve.

Early on in Trump's four years, a spokesperson said Trump's explanations of events was not like that of reliable sources because he used "alternative facts." It is also said he offers an alternative reality.

Christianity has lived since its beginning on an alternative reality. Was it "real" that a human walked away after being stone dead for three days? That is an example of alternative reality. Trump's alternative reality is that he won the election. If Christians already believe one view of alternative reality, the resurrection, why would they not believe Biden stole the election? One is as likely, or unlikely, as the other.

Truth and reality have always been abused by religion. Now the faith will see more abuse of the truth than ever it was able to muster.

  1. There is a fair comparison to be made here, as there are a considerable number of folks who have deified Donald Trump.

However, I feel he is on the outside looking in these days.
