Was God a Trans

All the handwringing of conservative Christians over children self identifying with a different gender or no gender goes on and on. One would think there was something one could find in the Bible that condemned changing genders, or declaring no gender. That is, something besides the creation story where God created Adam and Eve. Even that story and that verse has a variety of meanings depending on assumptions one makes before reading it.

Feminists have always referred to Bible passages that declare God was neither male nor female. This is a rather broadly held view. From Wikipedia we read:

However, there are a significant number of feminine allegorical references to God, most often in some maternal role.

There is another interesting one, Job 21:24. Job was supposedly in an argument with someone. In the King James Version published in 1611 Job 21:24 says God has breasts that are full of milk. This set off a flurry of angry arguments that has been going on in the centuries since. "Bad translation." "Does not fit the context..."

The literal God with breasts, however, is not far off the mark of a cultural change going on at the time. Christian apologists mostly refuse to own up to the change.

KJV 1611 was published less than a century after the Reformation when women were treated by husbands and by the faith as equal in their marriages. Men were the rulers of the Catholic Church. Male Catholic clergy referred to men and women are equals in marriage. Sermons prior to the Reformation paid no homage to Paul's now famous passage men ruled a couple's household and domestic life. Males certainly ruled many parts of life, but not the family in a marriage.

The Referendum gave birth to a rapidly growing Protestant church. This branch had no built in advantage for males like Catholics did with their male clergy. There had to be a way to build in male superiority over females. That was when Paul's passage about men ruling wives became popular. Male preachers put it in their sermons and even women began to believe it was an important part of the faith. This, even though it was not in the previous centuries.

So, was/is God transsexual? If there are worshippers who want a God that is trans they have every right to make him trans. There is even some material in the Bible to help them along. If there are those, like author John Piper, who want God to be a macho male, they have every right to make God a macho male. Whatever floats your boat.
