What is a Political Movement that Might Outlive Trump

About 40% of voters will vote against anyone and anything that is called Democrat or liberal. What set of ideas is central to these voters?

Perhaps a window into the longer standing remnants of the movements are the demographics of the Jan. 6 attackers. They are not low income Americans, their incomes higher than the national average. A sociologists referred to them as the "Elite of the Left Behind."

A good portion of these people are anti abortion activists. But the remainder are a cross section of occupations including many self employed. One thing that dominates is rural states. Another is that of being wronged by the rest of society, of being passed over and others getting more than they get.

Back in the early days of Trump it was noted rural males saw the way things operated as unfair to them. Women were moving up, they were not. Black people were moving up, they were not. The majority was out to harm them. A political talker who stood up for them against the majority was what they wanted.

Today, the unfounded claim of election fraud fits this demographic like a glove. "We never trusted the system that treated everyone else better than us so why should we believe votes were counted honestly." This group of voters will not be persuaded they are better off with Biden even if they actually are. They are enjoying their misery.

After Trump's botched trade policy, farmers and rural areas were worse off. He shoveled money into those areas. Will Democrats and Biden win those areas back by shoveling even more money there? It doesn't seem like it. If those voters still compare themselves to professional women and black people whom they perceive as doing better than they are their grievances will remain. At least that's how it looks to me.

This all reminds me again of watching on different nights Bernie and Hillary in the 2016 election. Bernie was all full of convincing voters government health care, free tuition for college students and better housing for low income people was good for everyone. Hillary did not believe such stuff. She knew, as is now apparent to all, it would not be possible to convince the 40% with grievances to vote for Democrats. The only alternative, she said, was to take advantage of what could be achieved at any political point in time.

Will Trump ever agree Biden won the election fair and square? Did he ever admit he was lying when he claimed Obama was not a U.S. citizen? He will never agree to either because his purpose in not to set the record straight.

It is to appeal to the demographic that holds grievances. That grievance demographic will live on, Trump or no Trump.
