Could it be More People will attend LGBT Events in June Than Will Attend Church

The size of crowds at these events and the number of events themselves grow each year. The number attending church falls. Perhaps LGBT events are not bigger than church events yet but things are going in the direction of bigger crowd numbers. 

There are lots of complaints about them. The link refers to a panel of doctors and preachers who say gay Pride events are harmful. LGBT events are simply more fun than going to church. 

It might be a good time for the Christian right to become just a bit reflective. Instead of condemning the sin of Gay Pride Month, June, they could ask themselves where they have failed? Why is it the public is not only increasingly tolerant of gays, a large portion of the public is actively advocating for gay rights?

I recall decades ago I was discussing the gay rights Mayoral Proclamation with a gay man who is still prominent in Fargo. He said we should point out to the Christian right how ridiculous it will look in a few decades when the general public will accept gay rights. I told him I did not think it would do any good because the Christian right is unable to project the long term consequences of their misguided views. My friend predicted accurately gay rights would become commonly accepted. Perhaps his idea of forecasting this change back then would have been helpful. I still doubt it but one never knows. 

Back then also was a local columnist, Wayne Lubenow, who wrote a column in a local weekly. He advised local critics one way they could deal with Gay Pride Month was to not celebrate it. They is still good advice. Certainly it is a better way to react than to complain about the sin of homosexuality. 

As even wiser move would be for the religious right to admit they have been wrong. They should admit the Bible does not condemn homosexuality nor gay marriage. They could steal back June for themselves. They could relabel it, "The month we were wrong."
