What Will Replace Christianity? Maybe it is This
So what could take the place of Christianity as it slides downward in popularity? The answer is in symbolism and imagery. It could be that people don't really worship Jesus, they worship the cross. It could be people don't really believe abortion is murder, the worship the picture of the fetus. Symbols and images play with people's minds.
The practice of tarot is booming. New ideas for tarot cards and the use of old cards was popular in the 1960's. It fell off for a while, now it is back.
It's easy, that is easy for me, to think of tarot cards as entertainment or amusement. That is the way I have come to see Christianity. This angers many Christians because to them the faith is serious. Reading about tarot enthusiasm I see they might be angered in the same way as Christians.
In the link, one young woman says tarot allows her to know who she is and what she is here for. She sees the future because of tarot cards. Another talks of her mother, a Catholic. The mother had pleasure from tarot cards in between church services. Those who market tarot say it is becoming popular with people who practice Christianity and perhaps other faiths.
And, why would it not? If people can through experience have an emotional reaction to a "cross", why can't they, through experience, have an emotional reaction to a circle? Looking at the tarot cards in the link one can see the potential. Oh yes, this is a cult it is said. Christianity and the cross is not a cult? I don't get the difference. If Christianity became a "belief system," Hinduism, Paganism and tarot cards can do the same thing.
