You Can Leave QAnon

Today there is an encouraging story of one woman who saw she was being manipulated by Trump and his friends in QAnon.  She is encouraging others to notice the manipulation and leave.

Of course, most who think like the conspirators in QAnon are not members. They just think like QAnon.

I chatted with a lady today who is a friend of ours. We spend evenings occasionally with her and her husband.  She wore a Trump mask all the time before the election and sometimes talked at length about her religion and conservative politics. Just to open the conversation today I asked her if she and her husband had been able to schedule vaccinations. No, she said, they would not be getting vaccinations. In a round about way she let me know the vaccines are very suspicious and deep state might be behind them. It's just too dangerous, she said, for she and her husband to take them. We wished each other a good day and went on our way.

I'm quite sure this friend visits conspiracy websites where she would have learned Trump would remain President and never be replaced with Biden ever though Biden won the election. Those running the conservative movement know things, she would have learned, the rest of us do not. Before Obama took office they knew, for example, he would never be seated as President because he was not a U.S. citizen.

QAnon has been very successful in planting false information in the heads of vulnerable citizens. Over half of all voters, for example, still believe Biden was elected by illegal votes. We can expect a steady diet of completely false information about Biden and government in general during the coming years. This false information will come from people carrying a flag in one hand and a cross in the other.

While I like Biden's call for "unity" it is something not available. So many people believe false information there is no way for the country to "come together."

There was a story yesterday little reported but I noticed because it is just something I follow. You may recall Trump said the trade deficit was unacceptable and he would apply his superior negotiating skills to trade and take away China's unfair advantage. The U.S. trade deficit last year was the highest in history. It was caused, at least in part, by Trump's tariffs that are paid by U.S. consumers.

It is possible, even if unlikely, others can leave the world of false propaganda behind.

  1. These liberals will have to tell us what this QANON is. Not sure what the hell it is.

"While I like Biden's call for "unity" it is something not available. So many people believe false information there is no way for the country to "come together."

Unity is indeed unavailable. Impeach our president twice without evidence and then out of the other side of their mouth ask for unity? Are you serious?

Steal an election. Won't even allow third party to verify and look at information that should be public from this side of government. Freedom of Information Act anyone? A few little exceptions exist, and these were damning towards the supposedly fair election process. The dems being election theft deniers will not do anything to span this divide.

    1. Henry, Jan 29, 2021 at 7:41 PM. “Unity is unavailable.”

Was it Joe Biden that said out the other side of his mouth, “Voters, not special interests, will be in charge finally, We are going to bring our country together again. We have a divided country. It’s totally divided. The era of division will be replaced with a future of unity, total unity. We will love each other. We will have one country. Everybody will work together.”?

The Real Steal is a robbery in progress by “the most loyal people — did you ever see that? Where [he] could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody, and wouldn’t lose any voters. It’s like incredible.” Impeach? It’s a two act play like “Waiting fo Godot”, nothing happens - twice. He will survive the double tap because most of his tribe does not care for democracy or mind that he fails to follow the Constitution, are highly submissive to authority, aggressive, exceptionally prejudice, fearful of a disintegrating society, decidedly ethnocentric, very defensive, extremely resentful, tolerant of his criminal behavior, and most of all, are attracted to his conspicuous authoritarianism. Throw in a heavy dose of Christian Nationalism and the big stew isa brewing. Of course there are no facts only interpretations and all truths are half-truths. Like Rep. M. Greene posted on FB, the Cali Camp Fire was started by space lasers triggered by a mega Jewish bank. That’s QAnon Henry and she’s got a gun. Peaceful weekend to you and yours.

Sounds like a slogan Joe Stalin used in the grand USSR. His love was pure and unconditional. Everyone "willingly" worked together. He was the man.

Unity is not gonna happen. Recent Gallop poll is 11% of Americans think this country is going in the right direction with EO R US at the helm. 75% of Republicans believe that the election was stolen. What do you want me to do with that? There is conspiracy theory all right, and it is that we are locking arms together and singing Kum Ba Yah to Lord Bieden, except for a few fringe outliers quickly labeled QANON.

P.S. Lord Bieden's handlers better get some hydroxychloroquine for him. He was dazed and confused, properly handling the pen this time, but stammering on about who he was trying to figure out who was president as he was vigorously coughing onto the executive orders he was signing. This is an absolute clown show. Every day, it has become a clown show.

    4. P.S. After treason was committed by some of the dems and republicans during this election cycle, there will be no unity. Unity was wishful thinking for some, and is still wishful thinking for some. I am out on any semblance of unity.

  2. to elaborate. the facts/interpretation business is straight out of Nietzsche. if I understand him aright, he thought that the universe is chaotic, purposeless, etc. that all our meta-narratives so called are but human attempts to impose order on chaos. all moralities, sciences, philosophies and so forth are ultimately false: but necessary for our survival, well being. so, then, two questions: 1) if everything is ultimately false, how can anyone then say that all human endeavors are ultimately false. if everything is false who are we to say that falsehood is true. to me we have a real contradiction here. 2) if everything is chaotic, then isn't the human mind also chaotic? can we then trust reason? sense experience, whatever. any comments?

  3. tsm -- By way of background, I see in Wikipedia Nietzsche died in 1900. His writing became associated with Nazi thought but Wikipedia contributors disputed this.

I gather from what you wrote and Wikipedia he was a critical thinker who tried to put literature and religion into the context in which it appeared. His original career was in languages of the classics similar to what Ehrman does. Then he branched into Philosophy which Ehrman has not done.

He sounds like much of economic history as written by economists. People do and believe what they need to do and believe to survive. In my view, the most powerful religious ideas to ever exist are worthless if all those who ever believed them are dead.

    1. yes Nietzsche "contributed " to Nazi thought. but indirectly. his sister, who was a raging anti-Semite, is known to have briefed Hitler on Nietzsche's ideas as she interpreted them. besides old Fredrich's notions regarding the will to power would have attracted Nazi "thinkers". BTW. F.N. became insane in about 1889, probably from syphilis. and if the universe is chaotic then, as you say, economics, ultimately, is just as much hokum as philosophy, religion. science, literature, etc. just stories that we tell ourselves to help us survive in a cruel, indifferent world. comforting thoughts, those.

  4. "In my view, the most powerful religious ideas to ever exist are worthless if all those who ever believed them are dead."

Strange. I do not practice my faith for earthly things. There may be a resulting donation here or there that helps some human and earthly need, but that isn't why I am practicing my faith. If it were so, I could just donate directly to the food pantry or shelter or whatever and avoid the other earthly costs of practicing my faith. I then clearly wouldn't need church or religion. From this dead viewpoint, indeed "the most powerful religious ideas to ever exist are worthless if all those who ever believed them are dead." This particular viewpoint is tainted by misapplying faith to worldly goals and beliefs. With that, failure is inevitable. Eventually, one of the results is to lose one's faith and occasionally when visiting the grandkids, in error, "sip a little grape juice."

    1. Henry -- I can never tell if you are serious or not. I'll treat your funny post as if it were not a joke. When everyone who ever practiced/believed in some religion is dead there is no such religion. Probably there have been thousands of religions each with a god and neither the religion nor the gods exist anymore.
