Jesuit Priest Accuses Some Catholic Leaders of Encouraging DC Riot

In a powerful post, those Catholic leaders who insisted it impossible for a Catholic to vote for Joe Biden have been skillfully called out from inside the faith. Jesuit Priest James Martin said Catholic teaching allows a good Catholic to vote for an abortion rights politician when there are other even more powerful reasons in play. In the case of Trump, there were plenty of policies contrary to Catholic teaching that could override Biden's abortion rights views.

In the link one can read angry comments from Bishops and other high ranking Catholics directed at Catholic Biden voters. The comments are so angry and filled with intolerance it is not a stretch to say they could have contributed toward the acts of violence in DC.

That some leaders in both the Catholic and Protestant branches have gone bonkers about abortion is not easy to understand. Catholics, for example, preach something called "natural law." Since the beginning of humans, so far as we know, they have practiced some kind of population control. Native Alaskans killed babies and older people committed suicide. They did this from shrewd calculations that the family and tribe would all starve if there were too many mouths to feed.

This is call survival. It is the natural outcome of counting the number of people and the number of fish or ears of corn. It is "natural law." We all know there are more natural abortions, call miscarriages, than medical abortions. Nature makes certain some births do not happen. Human's natural inclination to survive or improve their lives makes certain some births do not happen.

Instead of seeing abortion as part of the human experience since the beginning of humans, a part of Christianity has gone bonkers about it. The intellectual leap to make abortion into a religious issue was at least a part of why there was a long prayer by the rioters in the Senate Chambers. The rioters had been taught invading, sacking the Capital and trampling a police officer would make Jesus proud.

Hopefully, some of the Catholic clergy who are bouncing off the walls over abortion will read and ponder the reasoning of Father Martin.

Concerning some angry Catholic lashing out over an innocent child, look at how Grandpa Joe's grandchild, which required a team effort by his two sons' families, evoked a bristling response:

I would have thought Grandpa Joe would be beaming over his burgeoning progeny. Apparently not so. His loss.

  2. Jon,

The “still small voice” of the God of Christian religion perversely translated by some clerics amplified and broadcast through a “MAGA-phone” begets the whirlwind, quake, and heat of political insurrection — but their Lord was not in the fury. Is “The Good News” ever whispered?

Good question. Bull horns and shouting red faces were the norm on Jan 6.

I think, however, there is whispering in churches. One attendee leans over to another and says, "This is bull$hit."

    2. As I am celebrating Joe Biden's inauguration, I wish him luck. He will need it with an open soul, an unhardened heart, and humility. He will definitely need it.

I am wondering why atheists expect "The Good News" to be a political event fraught with insurrection from false flag antifa members leading the damaging charges against the capitol building? Why would we expect any different behavior than what they exhibited in 2017, burning DC and rioting?

  3. Henry re: Joe Biden's "an unhardened heart.."

What is your source or origin that Joe Biden has a "hardened heart?"

I saw on conservative websites the prophets affiliated to the Christians who broke into the Capitol and were responsible for 5 deaths said something terrible would happen today at the Inauguration. I thought you, yourself, hinted the Inauguration would not happen. We all saw everything went off without a hitch. Trumpies put out a call for their kind to line the road from the airport to Mara Largo to cheer the Almighty's motorcade. They wanted several people deep the entire route. Turnout was small.

Trumpies need to pray tonight with Tony Perkins at the Family Research site. He outline what the prayers are to be focused on. They are to focus on "the truth." And, against lies and "corruption." This after Tony, himself, lied that the election of Biden was not valid and was compromised by "fraud.

I'm still waiting for Rudy and Sidney (good name if one is trans, can go either way) to release all the sworn testimony of observed fraud. If they would just release it Trump could fly back to DC and take over again. That is, unless all those envelopes said to contain sworn testimony were really about poll workers who reached under their desks to tie their shoe laces.
