In Spite of Efforts to Stop Research, Better Contraception is Coming

Thank goodness for billionaires who are secular and interested in using technology and research to make humans' lives better. These include the Gates and Kennedys. Even though the Catholic Church and parts of Protestantism want to keep women pregnant in the summer and barefoot in the winter they will be unsuccessful ultimately.

One of the things I learned in the exhaustive study of pregnancy and abortion, The Turnaways, is that women sometimes do not take birth control properly, run out/or and cannot get replacement easily. The long standing products have uncomfortable side effects. Drug companies have seen the market of out of date products rise even though women are unhappy with them. The research for new products is expensive and firms are subject to litigation. Many unwanted pregnancies happen because of stalled birth control technology. On the horizon are better products.

Worldwide about half of all women use birth control. Yet, there is a lot of dissatisfaction with the products now available. About 40% of all pregnancies are unwanted. In very poor countries women need free birth control. The cost of products and the ease of use needs to improve.

The Gates and Kennedy families combined with public funding and drug company partnerships has put research back into gear. New products without the bad side effects and ease of use have been well accepted by consumers.

Besides the better lives of women, better birth control products and wider usage have huge benefits to world health care. Large amounts of money are spent on abortions. In poor countries, child birth is one of the leading causes of death.

Within drug companies, only about 2% of research money is spent on contraception research. With a growing market and risk reduction by private donations and government support we will see the amount of research grow. This will be good for economies around the world as well as the women everywhere.

  2. Jon,

Birth control medication delivery systems are evolving as well. In testing is a microneedle-based patch designed to provide birth control for up to a month. A method that could replace the daily pill regimen.

  3. Eugenics is a grisly business. Old men discussing how they are either going to abort or make young women "healthy" in regards to their reproduction is very ironic. We have heard much this past year concerning the allegation of systemic racism. We only need to analyze the statistics of abortion to see where the eugenics movement is culling and where systemic racism really lies. Leading the charge is a man named Jon, age and race unspecified.

Sorry Henry all I have is questions.

      1) Is it true in America every biologically capable women is supposed to give birth to another human being?

      2) Is it legal in America for any biologically capable women by her own desire and volition to freely seek, in one manner or another, to become pregnant or to practice contraception or to terminate an unwanted pregnancy?

      3) To whom is she morally accountable?

  5. Henry re "Eugenics"
Great fun that you, Unknown and others have had bringing this up for some 10 years now. Margaret Sanger said abortion was a way for poor women to escape poverty. It still is. There are more poor black women than poor white women. Equalize the incomes between the two races and then see if the abortion rate remains different.

  7. Unknown "the Catholic demurred."

The Catholics were big slave owners. A group of black Catholic clergy is demanding acknowledgement of the church's sins.

    2. Unknown "what's slavery got to do with anything?"

It's good to hear you be so candid. Slavery was not a big deal in your view. It wasn't to the Catholic church who owned slaves either. You are a good example of "Keep the faith Brother."
