Cardinal Burke Says Gay People Have no Right to Form Families

Cardinal Burke is good for atheists. What he says about groups he doesn't like is off the charts. Recently he said those "suffering from the homosexual disorder" have no right to form families because they do not conform to the natural order of things.  Let's not forget he advised a mother not to invite her gay son to her home for the holidays. The more isolated gay people are the sooner they will mend their ways, apparently.

In the first place, it is ridiculous for Burke to consider gay people getting married and/or raising children is an issue important enough to condemn. It's just something inevitable that is happening and he would do well to focus on some issue really important to the well being of humans. Maybe cancer or Covid 19 for example.

Years ago I was visiting with a young priest in Fargo who told me privately he was baffled at how big a deal abortion was in the Catholic clergy enterprise. He pointed out a litany of human suffering which was more important and needed attention. I lost track of him and don't know if he had a long career in the clergy or not. He was the best example of smart and reasonable clergy one could ever find. Burke represents the worst.

Whether it is condemning gay people or pregnant women you can count on the Catholic clergy to be out of step with principles of decent behavior. It would be ever so wonderful to see this world-wide enterprise with plenty of money and time on its hands get behind worthwhile causes. It has always seemed to the various brotherhoods, or whatever you call them, such as the one Pope Francis was in, are far ahead of the rest of the enterprise in finding worthwhile causes to devote their lives to.

When clergy in either the Catholic or Protestant branches considers itself somehow apart from and superior to those who pay their salaries we can expect odd, bizarre and damaging behavior. From both branches we see a parade of sexual abusers along with officials who try to cover up instead of expose them.

The healthiest thing any Catholic can do is be suspicious of his/her high level leaders.

  2. Jon,
Thanks to Matt for keeping the ball rolling.

I suppose there are at least a dozen takes on the nature of “natural order”. Yes there are sexual differences in the human species. If truth be told more than two. It certainly is no longer a requirement, if it ever was, that the formation of a family requires at least one member be able to bear a child.

So here we have Raymond Burke another portly Catholic prelate draped in ecclesiastical glam passing judgement on “objectively disordered inclinations”. We are assured by his vow of celibacy that he never engages in auto-eroticism or suffers a nocturnal emission — praise be on high. If homosexuality is a “condition” then perhaps abstaining from sex for religious reasons and chronic over eating also qualify. Serial sublimation of the amorous instinct with a medium rare Porterhouse. toast, and a fine red — ah! yes. God yes.

    1. Can't kill the message so try to kill the messenger.

Jesus Christ ordained that men should remain celibate or marry (women, only). He said the same about women's celibacy or marriage. Naturally, since the left hates God, they reject the teachings of Jesus Christ.

"portly", "chronic over eating", "serial sublimation of the amorous instinct", " medium, rare Poterhouse, toast, and a fine red", "draped in ecclesiastical glam" "passing judgment".

Could you be more bigoted or anti-Christian? Are you some sort of competition?
