Apocalypse Now: Why Some Religious People are Disappointed

The apocalypse is outlined in some detail in Revelations. Prominent preachers have carefully compared current events to Revelations and concluded we are experiencing the Great Apocalypse. Then, they had to conclude, wait, I guess it wasn't. They were so happy with the Coronavirus, this had to be it. Then Trump undermined them with, "It's nothing. It will be gone shortly." Darn, another good Apocalypse gone.

There is a preacher, however, who has decided the election of Biden/Harris is part of the real and genuine Apocalypse. It is going is usher in the sin predicted in Revelations and then, finally, the real deal will arrive. Whew.

Several commenters on this blog told us that gay marriage was the sign the Apocalypse was about to arrive. I think as they get used to it they are finding it is not the sin they thought is was. It's just one darn disappointment after another. I'd suggest to them the apocalypse is a myth but I know it would be a waste of their time and mine.

One preacher I read about has not given up hope. He said the election of Biden and Harris my be itself the apocalypse. His reasoning is the sin they will bring about will cause Jesus to decide enough is enough. I watched Pat Robertson the other day praying fervently that the election results will be overturned by Trump's lawyers and the sins of Biden will be avoided.

All of this goes back not only to Revelations but to the words attributed to Jesus by those who wrote the New Testament. Since no writer claims to have seen Jesus or was present went he was supposed to have said these things we can't know what to believe. But, according to what was written Jesus believed the world would end in his lifetime. One would think if we went with critical thinking and noted that Jesus was wrong it may well suggest lesser figures like those today would be wrong as well.

My prediction of the future is that every year or two many preachers and Christian nonprofits will declare the latest marque sin will bring the end of the world. Following that prediction we will see the bank accounts of those who made the declaration full. And following it further we will see nothing happen--things will continue as they always have.
