Here Comes the Old Republican Schtick


 

An article appeared on the Christian Post site that has appeared in every election I can remember. The names change but the chicanery remains exactly the same. The letters and columns are always from a military person or retired one. It is always implies, "I know all about how to keep our country safe. The Democrats are dangerous and will endanger you. Trust me, I know."

This phony says America will be engulfed in fames if protesters are not stomped on. Four years ago it was Hillary's emails and some "General" claimed they would ruin the country. During one of the Bush II elections I remember a "General" who was the one person in charge of the nuclear button. He wrote that his experience as the only person with that responsibility made him uniquely qualified to judge who would be the best President beside him. Surprise, it was Bush II.

This is not to say Democrats don't play "the sky is falling" with gusto sometimes. Bill Clinton did it with Bush I using an exaggeration about the economy. At least I thought it was exaggerated. That and other parts, including Clinton's youth and personality, carried the day.

With the Republicans it is so obvious. I have gotten some "friend requests" on my Face Book account from men with pictures and profile just like the one in the link. There can be no doubt Republicans are trying to infiltrate lots of the social media with these "experts" on what keeps America safe.

The other fun aspect of the link is that it made much of the disorder and chaos from the Black Lives and related protests. He wrote police need to be better funded and then need to put the hammer down on protesters. Wait! Have not there been Christian protestors at abortion clinics who did some vandalism? 

And what about Jesus' vandalism in the Temple? The Jesus character in the Bible approved of vandalism and that style of protest. We know that because he engaged in it. Instead of a gun he had a whip. 

Jesus must have been the kind of Democrat Republicans are today complaining about.

The Religious Capitol Invaders May Yet Win

So much about U.S. society and religion can be learned from the Civil War and what happened afterwards. After its defeat, the South started a myth about the unethical soldiers from the North. The South fought for principles of God and states rights. The North did not. It was the South, this propaganda told the country, that had the high moral ground.  The Capitol invaders, encouraged by Trump, swallowed the myth that Biden's election was stolen. Thus, they think they held and still hold the high moral ground. This was reinforced by the cross and prayers during the invasion. Even with Trump is gone, we will see political opportunists like Senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley stroking crowds and feeding the same lies as Trump. Father Frank Pavone, the Ultimate Crook

Recently, the Vatican defrocked Frank Pavone. His diehard fans are outraged. This is because he cleverly manipulated his fans and the press all the while living well from donations and, apparently, abusing some women. By making abortion the "sin" of the century, and himself the main opposition to this one sin, he himself could get away with any sin he pleased.  As the link points out, Pavone was the perfect priest for the Trump era. Trump is so self-important laws have no role in his life. He felt accountable to no one. Women were there to be had. Pavone and Trump are interchangeable.  Pavone was very successful raising money. In his mind, abortion was so important in Catholic beliefs and he was so important in anti-abortion the money he raised opposing it was his to do with what he liked.
