Biden Addresses a Gathering of Muslims



When people say Joe Biden is not liberal enough, is too liberal and does not have the energy to pursue the Presidency or conduct the nation's business, I have to smile. Recently he made a gusty move, inviting support from Muslims and condemning discrimination of them. Even Bernie Sanders did not court their vote this aggressively. 

Trump does not have the fortitude to do something like this. He is afraid to step out from the borders of religious and ideological walls built for him buy conservative Christians.

While the Muslim vote is not large, it would be important in some states Trump won but are now competitive or leaning Biden. An interesting one in Michigan.

Detroit has one of the largest percentage of Muslims in U.S. large cities. In the state it represents in some demographic estimates 1.2% Florida, another state needed badly by Trump is at about 1% Muslim. We all know about razor thin election results.

I'm curious about whether Biden will pay any price for courting Muslims. Certainly going back to 9/11 bashing Muslims was thought to be solid gold politics. Apparently Biden does not think this is the case today. I remember the flack I got on this blog years ago when I wrote that bashing all Muslims instead of just Muslim criminals was a mistake. If we want to speculate about the variety of Muslim branches we need only look at the variety of Christian branches.

I wish there were a President, even a President Biden, who would end his speeches with, "May God and Allah bless America and may God and Allah bless you."

The Religious Capitol Invaders May Yet Win

So much about U.S. society and religion can be learned from the Civil War and what happened afterwards. After its defeat, the South started a myth about the unethical soldiers from the North. The South fought for principles of God and states rights. The North did not. It was the South, this propaganda told the country, that had the high moral ground.  The Capitol invaders, encouraged by Trump, swallowed the myth that Biden's election was stolen. Thus, they think they held and still hold the high moral ground. This was reinforced by the cross and prayers during the invasion. Even with Trump is gone, we will see political opportunists like Senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley stroking crowds and feeding the same lies as Trump. Father Frank Pavone, the Ultimate Crook

Recently, the Vatican defrocked Frank Pavone. His diehard fans are outraged. This is because he cleverly manipulated his fans and the press all the while living well from donations and, apparently, abusing some women. By making abortion the "sin" of the century, and himself the main opposition to this one sin, he himself could get away with any sin he pleased.  As the link points out, Pavone was the perfect priest for the Trump era. Trump is so self-important laws have no role in his life. He felt accountable to no one. Women were there to be had. Pavone and Trump are interchangeable.  Pavone was very successful raising money.
